Free licence - worth $ 49,99 - for Parallels Workstation ( Windows and Linux version of Parallel Desktops for Mac OS )

Let’s “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s …” . Since we’ll reveal a leak from a certain promo , at least we can talk a bit about that promo .

So it is about a part of an older ( June 2008 ) but impressive promo campaign of the well-rated webhosting services company LunarPages , containing a software and services bundle valued at $775.
Normally there were “only” 150 000 available promo packages but - from what we can see on their main webpage - it seems that they have decided to make it permanent, in order to encourage buying any of their hosting plans .

The buzz is on the web : the downloading address for Parallels Workstation has been leaked .
We write about it this late ( it buzzed on Jan 1st ) for two simple reasons : 1. only today we have found the time to verify the tip ( and it’s working ) … and 2.  Anyway we have this ( good !) habit to remind our visitors about still valid promos ( burried - otherwise - in some other weblogs archives ) .

Beeing able to run two ( Vista and Linux , for example ) - and even 5 ! - different Operating systems on your computer, in the same time … What a wonderful possibility made possible by popular virtualization software like VMWare, VirtualPC , VirtualBox, XEN or Hyper-V . All of them freewares !

Parallels Company is famous mainly for Parallels Desktop - “THE” operating system virtualization solution for Mac OS .
Parallels Workstation - their Windows and Linux version - is not free, like the above competitors . It costs $49.99 for a single user license .
And - normal for a newcomer on this market - it is not too
popular yet, due to some unsolved known issues ( only run 32-bit operating systems , etc … see their Forum )

It is , nevertheless, a very light-on-the-machine and easy-to-use solution and the features and enhancements look great :

* MS Windows from 3.1 up to Vista guest OS support
* Ubuntu guest OS support
* Linux guest OS tools: Smooth mouse transition between most popular Linux guest OSes and Windows and Linux primary OSes
* Multiple network adapters support — support up to 5 network adapters in VM simultaneously.
* Parallels Workstation 2.2 installation on new Linux kernels (2.6.20, 2.6.22, 2.6.23)
* Significantly improved AMD-V support
* Stronger support for Intel Virtualization Technology (VT)
* Improved overall performance and stability
* Support for primary OSes running on machines with up to 32 CPUs
* Shared Folders utility — easily share files and folders between operating systems
* Improved fullscreen mode that automatically resizes virtual machines to match your screen’s native resolution
* Support for dynamic primary OS video modes, custom video modes and 32 bpp video modes
* Full Unicode support lets users name files and directories in any language
* Support for multi interface USB devices
* Full support for Windows Mobile 2005 devices
* The default network adapter automatically bridges to the most readily available network
* Change network and bridge type on the fly
* Better sound recording and playback
* Smoother mouse synchronization for primary Linux OSes
* Improved performance for Sun Solaris running in virtual machines
* NetBSD and OpenBSD can now be run in a virtual machine as a guest OS
* A more powerful, easier to use Image Tool
* Easier installation on Linux primary OSes
* Better networking — use WiFi connections in Linux primary OSes, and switch bridge connections between a LAN cable and WiFi connection on the fly in any guest OS

    As of 2:00 a.m. EST on Feb. 26, 2009, the “getkey/lunar” webpage is no longer available. Either the offer is ended or there is a replacement page out there somewhere, maybe? Any suggestions???

    I haven’t used this software, I cannot comment on its features but VirtualBox is an alternative to this? best of all it’s free!

    Get a hold of it at: http://www.virtualbox.org/

    Head over to Gizmo’s TechSupportAlert, he had a mini mini review of it in one of the freeware 46 utilities, where is it? Sorry can’t locate it at the moment!

    Hi ! Your username is not very original. No big deal after all but is there any message behind it ?
    VirtualBox is mentioned in our article. Gizmo’s reviews are always top notch. Thank you !
