“… there’s another aspect I don’t like at all. When you announce a hot find there are 100 people leaving emails!! And you have generously sent +150 emails the last time.
But I only see the same names (30-40 people? I salute them all ! ) participating by giving feedbacks, or when it comes to support this generous 4 Free site in a fair cause ( against Raymond stealing their work ) or understanding when 4 Free explains the community needs more strenghts - exposure if we all want good deals for free.
I hope the owners of this site will find a way to only reward readers participating for real, with those giveaways you are preparing .
At least this is my perception of a fair community .

We have decided to already start the introduction ( JUST ) of the involvement-and-reward system we have planned for the community.
MOST IMPORTANT NOTE : WE PROMISE NOTHING UNTILL OUR PROJECT WILL START WORKING OFFICIALLY.
But we’ll probably start giving away software before even starting the community - trough limited promotions - so we need to know what you would like AND to let you know how you can qualify for the limited promotions.
“Limited promotions” means whatever amount and versions of software we obtain from developers now, when our Community Project is not on yet. There can be 1 or 20 or 100 available items. WE HONESTLY CAN NOT KNOW IT TODAY ! Take it as our decision to “shake” our readers by telling ( and showing ) them : “Hey! We can do nice things together !”
There are 3 aspects :
1. Please put in comments to this article 3 software names you would like to receive for free.
Put them in a preferential order and be reasonable about its value.
Keep in mind that you’ll only receive one of them , IF the promotion will take place AND IF you qualify for the promotion ( see point 2 )
Example : 1. Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
2. Avira AntiVir Pro
3. Roboform Pro
We’ll delete the software names before approving your comments. So remeber to write something “intelligent” ( your feedback on this article, for example ) before the 3 software names. Otherwise the comment will be blank ( no big deal - just ugly )
Don’t worry they’ll stay in our statistics and we’ll know what each one asked for!
Why deleting them in comments ? For 2 reasons :
- to not let anyone influence our readers ( there can be tons of stupid reasons );
- to keep the survey’s conclusions for our community . You’ve recently seen how easily web sharks are using other’s people work.
2. How to qualify for a limited promotion ?
Just be active in our site’s comments. This is our way to evaluate ( appreciate ) people’s involvement in our project:
20 points - for letting us know about EXCLUSIVE ( or very rare ) freebies on the web.
8 points - for letting us know about not-exclusive freebies, but promotions we decide to publish an article on them.
5 points - for a “rich tech ORIGINAL comment” - bringing important information on one of our software articles ( freebies, freewares or web services ) . Like a smart mini review.
3 points - for a “good tech ORIGINAL comment” - like how the software works on your computer, what you like and dislike, free alternatives, etc …
1 point for - a “normal ORIGINAL comment” - short normal comments.
But also :
20 points - for placing a link to our site on an important site ( mainly communities that can bring new members wanting to participate in our software giveaway project )
5 points - for placing a link to our site on ANY website ( BUT NOT SITES WITH ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES ! )
You can let us know in comments about these links.
3. In order to give you all the needed space in comments, for easily getting points, BUT - MOST IMPORTANT- TO UNDERLINE OUR SITE’S COMMITMENT TO “THE FREE SIDE OF THE WEB” , we’ll publish other 3 articles :

The situation of “The Free” on the web. How do you see it ?

Strict conditions to qualify for a limited 4 Free promotion :
- 7 points in the week before the promotion occurs.
- 25 points in the previous month . ( starting with May 2009 )
Very decent conditions, we think. If you use daily 2 minutes, or weekly 15 minute, or monthly 60 min of your time you can qualify with ease. You can add the feeling of being useful ( if we may suggest ).
Before fearing any manipulation ( or whatever grouchy thought ) please take into consideration that only an active community can count in negociation with software developers.
Remember we don’t care what e-mail address you’re using. Just be sure you’ll be able to read our messages.
Also please note that this is just a temporary solution, NOT part of our Community Project ! It will work in completely different ways. Just need to be consistent enough ( the community ). That’s why we’re doing the today’s first step.
But all participants will keep their points when the Forum will start as an appreciation of their faith in our project. This is important because there will probably exist - from time to time - very limited promotions … Offered to the most active and faithfull members, of course!
So please note that this “participation conditions” we are mentionning above are IMPORTANT ONLY FOR THE POSSIBLE LIMITED 4 FREE PROMOTIONS ! This is where the active members will be favoured.
We’re generally negociating for software promotions, opened for all visitors, but you must understand how difficult it is to obtain good conditions for top quality software. We don’t doubt we’ll finally get good deals for all our visitors.

Great news guys! I am really very glad you push things for moving in the right direction, I also like this new innovation for attracting people to participate in both site and forum,s activities. I think this unique project will be successfull as it is the only one of it,s kind on internet as far as I know.

I’d wager that you guy’s are using ConceptDraw MindMap. It’s good to see you trying a different approach to expand your readership. It shows you’re serous, and not afraid to try different strategy’s geared toward the growth of this site. A lot of people will invest a good deal of their personal time in a project, then sit around waiting for something to happen. But when nothing does happen, they’ll just sit around some more. Wow, thanks for putting me on your first 4 free promotion. I’m not sure I need anything personally, since I can figure out a workaround for most softwares … ie just use the free versions to do the job, though sometimes, the paid versions do a better job.
But for the sake of my technophobe family, I would like :
1. … a bit ambitious, but I believe you guys have done it before …
2. … recently available free, but I wasn’t able to grab it …
3. Any software that can help repair a pre-existing version of the Windows OS ie Windows XP (I’ve tried registry cleaners, the sfc /scannow commands where possible … but some things just elude me …)

Each day I check 7 sites which are, in alphabetical order:
1) Best Freeware Blog
2) For Free on Internet
3) freewaregenius.com
4) gHacks
5) Giveaway of the Day
6) Gizmo’s Tech Support Alert
7) Raymond.CC
I do not check these sites for specific software, if I need to do that I run a search, I do it looking for ideas.
All of these sights including yours often have interesting articles/information (as well as free/offer software) from which I have learned a great deal.
I can up to a point (no pun intended) understand the reason for your points system but I guess I will be lucky if I reach double figures, this will not stop me looking at your site each day or recommending your site to others, but it might well mean I miss out on some of your offers that I might have found useful, so be it.
This post is not intended as complaint or criticism of how you run your site, that is after all your decision, it is to make the observation that not everyone who supports your site in their own way wishes to be that active on the sight itself.
Also, while it might only apply to a tiny minority of your visitors, there could be practical (physical) reasons why some might find it difficult to post on any sort of regular basis.
Typing this has taken me nearly 1½ hours.

Not sure if this is the place to leave a suggestion, but I’ll do so anywhere. As more and more people start to use this site, we’ll bring with us a continuum of experience levels and a variety of freeware sitting on our systems. It might be nice to have a dedicated portion of this site on which we could post info on new software we’re using and a way to evaluate our skill level. Personally, I’m sort of a novice, so what I find to be a good piece of software (CC Cleaner, IObit Smart Defrag) might have issues that I’m unaware of, that someone with more experience could inform readers of and suggest an alternative. I like the IObit defrag for a couple of reasons, it can be scheduled to run at a pre-determined time, comes with different levels of defragging, and it can be set up to shut off the PC when done, so I can start it and head off to work and forget about it. Just a suggestion

Thanks for this opportunity! A lot of websites do now ask about what the readers actually want, but just list out all the freebies they can find, so I’m glad someone is doing something differently. I don’t personally use a lot of commercial software unless they are given away (why should I when there are so many freeware alternatives?) but I have found the following software unbeatable.
1. XXXXXXXX - No freeware to date is as efficient as this one.
2. XXXXXXXXX - I’m so used to the interface that I just want the whole package.
3. XXXXXXXX - I want to be able to block the processes!

i was having problems getting through your anti-spam program and i followed it’s links and read a little bit, it said if problem keeps repeating itself and javascript and cookies are in fact enabled, delete browser cache restart browser and try again. Worked for me.

Welcome ! Logically the original author should be the first one to announce us. The best is if he uses the same username on our site too.
We normally “reward” the links claimed in the exact day , in order to avoid any possible discussion. But if the friend who talked about 4 Free on a Forum ( for example ) will claim it a bit later, we’ll ask him by e-mail to RE-Edit that post ( since he has the username and password ) and to add a special phrase.
The claims are public here - in comments - so any attemt to fraud will be easily identified.

How about a top-notch DVD player. It is easy to get basic ones, but how about something that is fast, stable, feature-rich, and doesn’t have anything omitted for them to nag you to buy more (you know who you are). I’ve tended towards the free mplayer classic because of its speed control and zoom/pan facilities, but it doesn’t seem to have colour/contrast etc controls like VLC. I bought a a platinum version of a well-known product and then found it has a fixed-sized window. Aghhhhh ….
How about it? A top version from any DVD player company.

Regarding free softwares, I commonly use mozilla firefox, opera, revo unstaller, GOM player, Foxit pdf reader. Free downloading sites I know include download.com, softpedia, vnunet, zdnet, brothersoft.

I’ve developed a fondness for simpler programs. I love a free program called Destop Calendar (site desktopcalendar.tk) It is simple, idiot-proof,not connected to any online service. Vcom Fix-it Utilities, I HAD to have. Used it for years and it works great on 64 bit. Data recovery has found files I reallywas’sick’tolose. Many great diagnostic optionsand, rescue disc, creates checkpoint before installation of programswith restore options. Many other goodies.

Great site!!!! Stumbled across it on the net. Not sure I have three favoriites. I tend to look for useful things, not flash in the pans. How many icon editors do we need? A good free antivirus is a good choice. There are bunches out there. A good disk burning tool and replacement for MS Office are others. You’ve had free AShampoo which is a great product. Keep up the great work

Re Software Wishes:
As a PC user since abut ‘82 I’ve developed a reputation for being able to fix computers for others (after all, I’ve fixed my own innumerable times over the decades) but as typical, things are getting more and more complicated.
I do these repairs on the side and only charge what my neighbors, friends of theirs … etc. can afford. So I can’t afford the modern day diagnosis and analysis SW that is becoming ever more important. Thus, I have a continuing need for good, professional or semi-professional tools that are easy to learn to help me help others.
For example, right now, I’m working on a rash of virus fixes, etc that inexplicably wipe out Window’s ability to connect to the internet even though the actual wireless or wired connection is there and I can ping, etc. I’m honing in on a mostly universal fix, but even that is time-consuming and sometimes dangerous to other parts of Win. A program that could help me find and fix/replace the actual defective windows programs / connections parameters would be invaluable here.
And of course, a different wave is just around the corner. I know helpful programs are out there, but with the absurd prices, I’m not even looking any more. A few weeks ago I discovered this site and have benefited from it for sw that I use (sound manipulation, a replacement for MS Office, etc.), but could REALLY benefit from more IT sw.
If nothing else, a forum here to point to the more economical versions of such SW would be a great help!!

Hello 4 Free. After much consideration and hard thinking I’ve finally managed to come up with three software I would be more than grateful to receive. It was not an easy task given I am a software connaisseur of sorts and I usually purchase software I take a great interest in. Though it certainly doesn’t hurt to get great software for free!

Once again I had a problem sending my comment. After I clicked “send comment” I received an error screen from WP-Spam Free, telling me I do have Java and cookies enabled, and the statement “please alert the author of this blog, and let them know they need to view the Technical Support information”.
My comment was that I again went to the “Still Valid for Free” column, and clicked on Photo Pos Pro. It took me to your screen, and I clicked on Brother Soft promotion. I was then on their page, and clicked on the download button. It then sent me their Download now screen. I clicked on it, and was sent back to the previous screen. I was now in a loop, and couldn’t get the download or key. I didn’t try to find the other problem offers.
I do remember tryinh the Ashampo offer, and getting a German Language screen that I couldn’t figure out. I had gotten some Ashampoo a while back, but the screns were easier to navigate, and the free software web site had supplied english guides.

2. Thank you for letting us know - in fact - that the Photopos promotion is outdated. It was written in plain english.
3. There are a few dozens of thousands readers fully understanding our descriptions about how the german promotions work. It looks like you’re the only one having that problem.
In fact it’s quite the opposite situation: we have received (too) many nice words for our detailed instructions and screenshots.
You should know that you can simply use Google Translation for any german ( or whatever ) URL .
That being said , I would kindly ask you to try and focus on the softwares, if you have something to say. If not a simple Hello from time to time is just a question of appreciation of the work done by all the active members .

Hello guys…I have been a ’silent’ user for some time now…and I have decided to get ‘participative’.
Anyway, let me get straight to the point.
Top 5 freewares I use:
1. Avira Antivir Personal Edition Classic (I use it daily. It is truly the best free antivirus software; I have tried many others including AVG and Avast but Avira beats them all.)
2. Firefox (I do use Internet Explorer…to download Firefox and do Windows updates. I also use Google Chrome, Opera, Safari, but Firefox is my main browser…Not to forget, I have tried other great Firefox ‘derivatives’ such as Netscape Navigator 9 (not to be confused with the ‘legendary’ one), CometBird, SeaMonkey and Flock( I have not tried this yet)
3. CCleaner (This is the safest registry and junk file cleaner that I know of. I use it daily. There are
many others but I am sure most of us here know them already.)
4. MediaMonkey Standard Version ( This is the best jukebox player for Windows. WinAmp is a great alternative too. Of course, VLC media player is a must…’throw’ at it any music/video and it
will play it with not much problem..all the codec issues solved.)
5. Auslogics Disk Defrag (Actually Iobit Smart Defrag is ‘better’ as it has more ‘options’ such as
“Auto Defrag” which automatically defrag the system drive when the computer is idle. However, I am just used to Auslogics Disk Defrag…it works fast for me. Furthermore, some ‘techies’ believe that “auto defrag” is not good for the computer in the long term as it is ‘disk trashing’. I am not sure how to explain it best…why not do a Google search for that)

Hi Ive been a beater tester for a long time about 20 years. Ive tried them all i would like to see some good fire wall or antiviral programs maybe even a good reg cleaner. this stuff you put on some times is not any use to any one. it would be nice to see something good for a change thanks again.

Your site is pretty nice with a good concept. I have never been accused of being the brightest person in the world but I had the hardest time trying to figure out how to be part of your mailing list and early notification of promo’s. I also post on other sites regularly and have been asked by others how to be part of your mailing list. Lots of people have a hard time figuring it out. Why not make this info easier to find and more noticeable?

Hello, I have been a silet user til now, but you are right and I ‘ll try to be more active from now forwards. hi lads, i have been visiting your site for just over a month now and have tried some of the free promos. I havent kept them all but one in particular is proving to be useful to a non tech savvy person like me, TUU 2008.
The software producers should wake up to the fact that by giving these promos on a wider basis for certain software it would probably encourage us to try there other software, if there claims as to what it can do are proved to be the case then you tend to become loyal to them in the future. I have purchsed software (when i first bought a computer) that turned out to be useless. Out of pocket and no one to speak to face to face is a frustrating situation. Once bitten twice shy.
I feel that this site is going about it in a real and proper manner and should be looked at by software developers as a proven testing ground for feedback on there software. Feedback by the people who use it on there machines and are basically the market they are looking to target.
As for the wishlist i would like.

I put my RSS fedd on the bookmark bar of my Firefox and read all you publish day by day.
After some time, and some program downloaded ;-),I decided to write my opinions on your site.
For the first, five very (free) popuplar programs I use regularly:
1.Firefox, every day, for many hours…
2.Thunderbird, also every day; it is permanently in activity on my taskbar
3.Geogebra, very powerful software for algebra and geometry
4.Maxima, for algebra and calculus
5.OpenOffice.org, you know what is…
And now, five other (free) programs not so used (I think):
1.Evrsoft First Page 2006, for Internet Sites development (for now, I’m developing only my personal site, for the future.. ?)
2.Notepad++ and PSPad, for programming and text processing, used frequently; localized in many languages
3.DSClock, syncronizable with all the scintific time servers in the world
4.CDBurnerXP, when I must burn a cd, dvd, Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, is a very nice program; localized in many languages
5.Paint.NET, very powerful, for image editing
Also five programs I use not very often, but are good programs
1.The Gimp
2.Inkscape, for vector graphics
3.MWSnap, for image capture; localized in many languages
4.CCleaner, for computer maintenance
5.FreeDFD, to write running flux diagrams… Very nice!
These are only some of the programs I installed on my computer; most of them are free or opensource, others are registered versions obtained by some very useful sites like you or Giveawayoftheday.
Unfortunately, I don’t know other sites offering important software in registered versions.

Its an OS though, but it still software. You had already provided us free MS Office alternative, the Ashampoo Office, so we never know, you might as well provide us free Windows! Hehe!

I discovered your website just yesterday and i am still trying to understand how it works but i find your project to be very interesting. My self i prefer to use either buy or use freeware or gifted programs rathen than cracked ones. it’s only fair to the developers to support them. Your website is a great opportunity to try programs in their special editions and see if it is wirth buying them.

But GOTD changed the whole thing, making Quality Downloads Free, Clean, Legal n Available. Just keep going, where u r going people.

An image backup program, that works well with windows 7 on an Intel P45/ICH10 system. I have used paragon before, but no luck on my new system. Backing up works fine, but restoring with the bootcd doesn’t, no disk are reckognized. Acronis 2009/12 seems to work, but isn’t free.

Used to have a copy that worked, but it’s old and now does not. And as they charge for each year’s use, free would be great as I on;y use it a couple of times a year, always when someone clueless needs help. (Once even restored an entire virtual network drive, UGH!) A portable version would be even greater — why risk anything by writing onto the disk that I want to recover from?

Been using it for years to clean up all those zillions of programs that load at bootup. Pretty good database of what the programs are and do and how to get rid of them. Charges each year for database updates though. After 4 or 5 years, I think I deserve a lifetime account, I’ve certainly paid for it by now! And a portable version would again be the best option.
3) XXX And, of course, a portable version would be great as I work on several machines these days, so even one with a Linux version too would be the cat’s meow! (but I can live with just W XP compatible, I need *something* left to dream about, no?

I don’t know where to mention this, but I thought it might be of interest.
I just downloaded a copy of Serif PhotoPlus 9 from http://www.computeractive.co.uk/photoplus/index I found reference to it on Raymond. The installed software lists an Installation #, and a Code #. Using those 2 numbers the registration # can be obtained by calling an toll-free number.

PSPad - I can’t live without my favorite text editor.

oh, i read your response to my software giveaway. well, i do really XXXr. the lite version is good enough, but nothing beats the commercial edition. i really wish, it can be on a for-free list, even in just a day. i’ll surely grab it!
a free defrag utility. i have nothing in particular, i really dont know whats the best defragmenter out there. but anything is better than the one supplied with windows. defraggler is fine, but im sure a commercial version can be better.

It is refreshing to find a site dedicated to REAL free programs (that are obtained legally and not pirated), it is also uplifting to see that you credit your sources (many other sites do not) and finally I always find that it is good to be around site (community) members that go out of their way to help instead of insult.

Just wanted to turn the readers of this site on to a free software which I found long ago and find invaluable when I have occasion to use it. That software would be be Hashtab 3.0. Notwithstanding the plethora of checksum verifiers available (and there are many!), I find the simplicity and ease of use of this particular program to be eminently useful and refreshing. Once installed, it simply adds a “File Hashes” tab to a file’s “Properties” dialogue. When one clicks upon this, the CRC32, MD5 and Sha-1 for the file in question are automatically calculated. The program works quickly, although the time that it takes to perform the calculations is directly proportional to the size of the file-for example, a 3GB file would require a few minutes for the pertinent checksums to be derived. One then has simply to paste the bona fide checksum in a “Hash Comparison” field and click the “Compare” button to verify the integrity of the file. If all is well, a bright green checkmark puts your mind at ease. If all is not, a bright red “X” informs you of this, indicating that the file’s code has been altered and, as such, is not to be trusted, and one should endeavour to obtain a different copy of the file or program. If you frequently download files and/or programs from possibly questionable sources (i.e. from other than the developer’s official site) I am of a firm mind that you will welcome this addition to your context menu’s “Properties” dialogue. 2. No, I’m a die hard fan of Firefox - I even use the IE Tab add-on when have no other choice, that’s how badly I avoid using IE (if anyone knows a secure way to completerly unistall IE form Win XP, I’m open to suggestions/ instructions); I think it was a cookie-thing issue (I have my browser set to not accept cookies in general). It’s fine now.

I recently encountered a commercial program which might be amenable to arranging a promotional offer with you. It is frequently cracked, but apparently never given away. It is from a firm in Germany which is apparently a 2-man operation, and has been in business since the mid-1990’s. It is an excellent program with almost no exposure, no buzz, and is very little-known among potential users. They have offered many versions through the years, and so would have “earlier versions” which they could conceivable be convinced to give away as a marketing device.
In short, it is a product which offers everything I can think of which might make it a good candidate for promotion.
“The product” is actually two very similar programs, with very similar names, from the same company: XXXX It would be a great benefit to the community if you could convince them to make a version available.

It doesn’t have 1 of those bulky, ugly “managers” for notes, just arranges them any way you tell it to, has colors to pick for note, text, and an optional border, pick fonts from any you have in PC, choose size of note & change it anytime you want, and MANY more cool things about it!

Technical, you say? Wish list? Hmmm. Well, first of all, my wish list is for XXX. I received a USB turntable last year and it came with freeware capture software.
While it worked, it was obvious I needed to find something with more POWER! I downloaded several shareware applications and ‘try it before you buy it” types, but while I was in a shopping expedition in a local electronics megastore that I found XXX.
The box claimed to be the most popular package out there, and I must admit that I have to agree. I was able to capture and restore a large part of my vinyl collection over a long weekend.

But if not, there is at least plenty of great finds on the site to keep me busy.
Regarding other sites posting finds other people have found. I know it’s not very polite, but it can be helpful sometimes when someone repeats a find from a site i don’t go on or have not found yet.
Saying that it is shameful that they do not print an acknowledgement to the original finder.

1. Instant Text/Phrase Express Pro (already own Phrase Express Pro - but you have to renew you license with each new major version release - would love a lifetime license);
2. PDF X Change Pro - I use the PDF-XChange Viewer daily - and I want the whole pdf suite;

My FFOI Software Wish-List . . . (+ one)

In addition, I’d like to offer this . . .
There are now several active websites offering information, links and guides to a myriad of promos and gratis software. From Anime to Z-files, if you want to do it . . . chances are, you’ll be able to find the software you need with no investment other than the few minutes of time it takes to leave a comment - or even better, add relevance to the article at hand.
I have taken from these websites and software developers often in the past and have honestly tried to leave behind my gratitude in the form of a helpful comment or bug-report for the developer(s). But more often than not, I found myself with a growing sense of frustration with the “hit-n-run” visitors . . . and began to doubt that these websites would be able to continue their mission much longer. Understanding and appreciating what websites like FFOI are trying to accomplish is vital to all who visit and there are many who understand what it is that you are doing (truly a monumental task). To me, the purpose of websites like yours goes far beyond free software, and to the core of why the Internet was created.
I am glad and a bit relieved to see that a sense of structure and personal responsibility is taking shape on FFOI. I hope other sites learn from what you are doing here.

As a final note - I would like to offer a free editor in the rare arena of Icon Editors. It has been a welcome and helpful addition to my website design arsenal. Icon editing software is a niche’ market it seems and starving designers would welcome this tool’s help. IcoFX (http://icofx.ro/).
They also have a free cursor editor as well. - AniFX (http://icofx.ro/anifx/index.html).
I learned of these a year or so back, and while rather new to FFOI, I haven’t noticed them listed here or on any like-minded site. They just don’t seem to come-up very often at all.
However, if I missed their listing, my apologies . . . and please just recycle my text.
