No we don’t work for Paragon. Though we’re fans of their backup products. If I remember well you’ve had a problem with their defragger … We’ve told you in the article that product was not their best shot.

1/ Paragon products are always top-notch pieces of software…
2/ But I was never able to understand the difference between drive backup and drive copy.
I mean: drive copy is intended to move a whole hard drive to another one, by cloning it…
Drive backup is intended to clone a drive in order to restore it later if needed…
So ?
Why not cloning with drive backup and restoring on another device ?
Because of the drivers and other settings that may not fit with another drive/computer? Is that the difference that drive copy makes a clone that can be used for migrating a system to another computer and drive backup a clone that can be used for restoring a system, those usages not being interchangeable?
Is that the difference?
I’m a register user of paragon hard disk manager 2008 suite and I’m very happy with it.
It proposes one option to backup a partition (that would be the DriveBackup equivalent) and another option to migrate to a new disk (not saying if this new disk has to be in the same computer or not… that would be drive copy equivalent).
Many thanks to the one who could explain me these substilities…
2/ If it’s on Raymond’s blog how do you know that this specific user that posted about ashampoo music studio has multiple identities on his forum?
Not that it makes any difference to me, but… when it’s here, if one uses many names or emails, sure you’ll know. But on Raymond’s site?

About that guy : it’s a long story. Not the moment and place to develop it like I should do. In 2 words we’ve had “the chance to admire his techniques” on GOTD and Gizmo, before Raymond. In order to make people access his links, there are always some “fans” saying things like ” I want to thank X for enligthening me” or rising some dedicated questions ( where he always come with an fast answer, under his real name ), etc … Do you see how elaborate it is ?! (a shrink will call it differently )
Imagine that this guy is among the most active “friends” here - on 4 Free - under different usernames !
Do you feel good about that ?!

Hi Mei! There are many sites doing that and we have no intention to control that. Honest people will have no problem to credit us, in order to recognise our work.
The problem is more complicated on Raymond’s Forum because this “multiple personalities guy” has put there all our finds - oftenly one after another. He must have some hallucinating reasons of his.
All we can do is to tell Raymond’s real fans about this situation … And to let all 4 Free real friends that he is here in comments, EVERYDAY - under a few names.
And this is exactly what we have done .
How many more BACK UP stuffs TITAN, Paragon…………….
Its too much to have, one software can do the magic……….

Not unappreciated guys,but will pass on this as I have lots of Paragon products already which I tend to disregard anyway as I have Acronis TI 12 and Disk Director which I think are far superior.Maybe you could get these twos oftwares in the near future for your readers.Keep up the excellent work and I will continue to check this great site everyday…….

Hi everyone.I have been away from the computer for a bit,so I have missed out on all the news.However,it is a nice surprise to find a rather decent backup program for my now recently reformatted computer.I have just downloaded it (download speed was a bit slow) and it installed fine.I received the registration key in about 60 secs after filling in the form.Will try it out this weekend.

Thanks for this. Was looking for this sort of software after my recent re-installation of Windows. Then I used a freeware I found on Gizmo’s Best Freeware, but will try this one out, as I expect it to be faster and more streamlined. If the alternative from Acronis is even better than this, I’m sure you guys will do your best to make it one of your future hot finds.

Works fine, installed on both an Xp and a Vista machine, tried the rescue disk function for my Vista machine,(no I hadn’t gotten around to making one) it copied the required files and booted perfectly. I also installed it on an old PC that I keep just to experiment on, and ran the disk image and restore utility with perfect results. Nice piece of software

Browsed the mfg site and looked at the comparison charts.
DriveCopy (75MB) is designed to allow you to copy the contents of a drive (or partition) to another drive or location.
DriveBackup(250MB)(US$10.00more) gives many more options to backup files as well as restore to an existing drive. Both programs excellent

You’re confirming Franck’s sayings. But the huge Drive Backup setup you’re talking about (250MB) must be the one from GOTD ( containing both 32 and 64-bit Windows versions ). I might be wrong because I have only tried the SE version ( the installer has 93,3 MB )

“Corel Draw Paint Pro X” seems to be a typo for Corel Paint Shop Pro X, since Corel Draw is a separate product.
I saw this promotion elsewhere (where it lasted a few hours; as you said). I have been one of the lucky ones to have grabbed it.
Nevertheless, Paragon Drive Copy is well appreciated too!

Excellent find, as usual!! Thank you!! I already have this software, but got to grab another copy for my laptop, yeah!! Paragon is a top notch Company that provides excellent software. I have used their Drive Backup numerous times as well as their Partition manager, and both have always worked flawlessly for me!
P.S. I have to add that Acronis True Image is not as nice anymore guys!! Resource hog and bloatware as well! Acronis TI stopped being good around v9, which is why I only use v9, hehe.

I like and use products. Although I do not have any special admiration for Germany or Germans, I appreciate the quality they present with their products. Paragon is an example of it.
I installed the Paragon Hard Disk Manager 8.5 SE and very happy about it. I have created and resized many partitions on this computer and run Windows 7 Beta, Vista Home Premium SP1 and Ubuntu 8.10 desktop editions together with data partitions. They have worked all well so far and I have had no single problem yet. Acronis is very well known program but does not often offer this kind of promotions.
Paragon gives free licenses to XXXXXXX top users (XXXXXXXXX) and to MS MVPs. Maybe this is how the user ‘fr’ got once copy of the Drive Backup Pro. These giveaways from Paragon to XXXXXXXX and MS MVPs ( I am not among any of these high-techs
) prove that Paragon is open to the comments of these gurus to develop their products further and also appreciate the efforts of the people who help the others, like we appreciate the efforts and support of the 4-Free-team members

I’m curious why do you feel the need to say “I do not have any special admiration for Germany or Germans … “. 4 free team has nothing to do with Germany, just an information if anybody needed it.
We have just compared somewhere the german software quality with the german cars one - famous all around the world. What’s funny is that Paragon seems to be a russian initiative continued in Germany.

It all went well,regged without problems,and,although it asked for restart,works just fine without it.It’s a lifesaver app if you’re buying a new PC or HDD.I really cant’t try it due to lack of free space on my HD-s,but will probably help me some day,so it’s a keeper.Thanks Mayur and everybody!

Only kidding about you working for Paragon.
I will say one thing for them though, their Customer Service was excellent especially as it was a free offer. I finally finished up with the full version of Total Defrag because they could not solve my problems with the SE version.
Regarding backup software, like DaveB I have both Acronis programs which do just about everything there is to do although I am using TI 11 so I’m waiting for someone to come up with an offer on v12 which has a couple of extras. I originally used Norton Ghost 10 which I thought was pretty good until after a reinstall 3 years ago (haven’t needed to do one since) it refused to re-register, after 2 months I finally heard from their customer service department in Ireland to say the my license number had been put back into their system but by that time I was using Acronis and have never looked back.
You are welcome to put the Linux information anywhere you feel is best, I just thought that people might find it interesting as I know many who have tried it but found it too difficult to set up.

Hi Franck ! There is no “event story”. His imagination has no limits. All we want is to keep 4 Free clean from parasites. Not an easy task, I tell you !
We have a bitter taste seeing how a crook is manipulating GOTD and Raymond, two of our favs , but warning is all we can do. Finally it is no big deal ! The world is full of dishonest persons looking for money no matter the methods .
As long as we’re not allowing those sick games here - on 4 Free - we can carry on with our Project!

Thanks. Good download, good discussions about the differences between an imaging and a copy/cloning software.
Keep in mind that in imaging or drive copy there is nothing wrong with having more than one program. You will get reports of occasional difficulties with almost any program, so e.g. if you do two different images or clones with two different programs your chances of a proper restore increase greatly. Recently I did early post-XP install images on an inexpensive normal USB-external-disk backup with Paragon, Easeus, Macrium Free and DriveImage XML. All were versions I was able to have for free, all have good reps, all were nice to use. Also never rely solely 100% on imaging (or cloning) be sure there is a file-by-file backup .. somewhere .. either available as a tool from the image program .. or in a separate regular SyncSE or Backup4All type program.
One last point. Paragon does an absolutely sensational job of keeping your serial #’s available to you, accessible by your email and a password, in their user account area. If you have a few softwares with them try to be sure to give one email account. They do not spam and they make it very easy for the user - I do not know of another software company that handles this as well. Kudos.

Please note that Paragon Drive Backup 9.0 Special Edition is CRIPPLEWARE!
It does NOT allow you to mount a backup image as a virtual drive and browse the files / folders. But you extract individual files and folders from an image using a very NON-INTUITIVE method. (The “Restore Individual Files” wizard is broken. Do not use it. It does not work. You must use a non-intuitive method described on the Paragon forums).
In addition, I found Paragon Drive Backup 9.0 Personal SE to be VERY SLOW at backing up. It took me 48 minutes to backup a drive (compared to 25 minutes using Marcium Reflect Free).
I have already removed the Paragon Drive Backup SE software. Macrium Reflect FREE is much faster, allows you to mount backup images as a virtual drive and has a better GUI IMHO.
Another good free alternative is DriveImage XML. But I like Macrium Reflect Free better.

Vow! You seem very sensitive today like you took it very serious with Pilgrim’s comment. Well, I am really misunderstood but I am sorry if I caused any misunderstanding. When I said that ‘I have no admiration for Germany or Germans’ there was no sarcasm or anything else. I just wanted to mean that I do not want to be misunderstood while I emphasized the quality of German products since someone can assume that I commend German products just because of my any special link with Germany. Absolutely not! German products are known with their quality, full stop! Other than that, there is nothing special with nationalities or qualities.
I really do not mind that you XXX’ed the links I put. The forum itself may have a look as paid forum but here is the tip: Make a search at google. If you see a link to the forum’s website at the result, click the link. At top of the page, it says subscribe but if you scroll down to the very below of the page, you will see that all the replies in the forum are uncovered as free! I have never subscribed to a forum and I would never pay money for a forum while free platforms are available like this!

Regarding Peter’s question, I just backed up my system using Paragon Drive Backup 9.0 Personal Special Edition obtained through an earlier hot tip here. I also made a recovery CD and wanted to be sure I could use it to restore the image stored on my USB portable hard drive. I tested the CD, and the system booted from it does see the USB drive as long as the drive has been plugged into the computer before booting.

Practically is about measuring one’s contribution to the community.
Beside recognizing and thanking those spending their time to give feedbacks and share information … It is a method to qualify the most active members IN CASE OF QUANTITY LIMITED SOFTWARE PROMOTIONS. If we only obtain 30 pieces of a certain software , of course the most active ones will be qualified.
But you must know that we always negociate open promotions.
Another aspect is that - as “managers” of this community - we’ll obviously do our best to fulfill the software wishes of the most active members … I mean : EVEN IF WE DON’T OBTAIN PROMOTIONS FOR THOSE PRODUCTS. ( we buy the gifts )

Although I prefer Acronis w/Universal Restore for disk imaging, Paragon is my first choice for disk management. They count the(MBR) first 63 sectors (0-62=63) properly where some other NAME brands don’t, which can really screw up your day.

Q. What is the difference between Backup and Copy procedures?
A:
Backup
During backup procedure an archive file is created which contains an exact image of a partition or a complete disk. All files and folders as well as all information about the partition structure are stored in this archive.
The archive files are ordinary files which could be stored among other files; e.g. another partition, USB-drive, network share, CD or DVD.
A restore could be done directly in Windows (for non system partitions only) or in case of a system failure by using Paragon Recovery CD.
It is also possible to restore only single files which are stored inside this archive. You can mount an archive to drive letter or extract only single files with the Paragon Volume Explorer or Paragon File Transfer Wizard.
Advantages of backup procedure to archive files:
• Backup and restore complete partitions or hard drives
• Restore single files or folders
• Space-saving backup due to archive compression and leaving out free space
• Easy to handle
• Greatest flexibility
Copy
Copy operations are divided in copy partition and copy hard disk tasks.
During partition copy procedure a new complete identical partition will be created on destination media.
During hard disk copy procedure all partition structure of source disk will be recreated on the destination disk and all data from source drive will be copied to the destination drive. After this operation the destination drive become as close to a duplicate of the source drive as possible. Note that during copy procedure all data on destination drive will be overwritten in case if it is not empty.
The copy procedure is commonly used for migration to new hard disks or for duplication whole PC systems.
Advantages of copy procedure:
• Quick and easy migration of hard disks
• Fast duplication of whole partitions
• Direct access to the copied files and folders
• Perfect for easy duplication of systems

Downloaded, installed and registered on XP Pro SP3 without a problem. Haven’t had time to do a full backup but I did burn a rescue disk and it booted ok.

Copy and Backup are completely different operations. Read comments from mayur, Franck and Steven . Many other comments are mixing those two issues.
I like how Paragon Drive Copy 9.0 SE works. Thanks to all involved in finding this promotion.

I think Suart is right . There are to many guys saying Thanks but I already have a backup program.
Not at all the same thing. Maybe Paragon Drive Copy 9.0 is underestimated by pure ignorance.
If you need to copy a drive ( partition ) on a new hard disk ( or partition ), this is a very good tool to have.

I used Paragon Drive Copy 9 SE to migrate an IBM T43p from an 80GB to 320GB hdd by attaching the new drive through a USB connection. This may be the fastest clone software I have used recently: each of 2 partitions were copied in about 15 minutes each. However, Paragon Drive Copy did not write an MBR that would boot immediately, but that problem was solved in a few minutes with the freeware TestDisk to fix boot records and partition tables. After that, the new drive booted without problems. No need to shell out $50 for for-pay software. During the rebuilding of a friend’s Dell Latitude, I tried a number of partition managers, but after experience with Paragon Drive Copy, I’m downloading Paragon Partition Manger 9 SE. If it does better than the other tools I tried, I will post back results. Thanks for helping us all get really useful software for free.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Is there any way around this please??

I have Paragon’s drive copy 9 ages now and have to say its really good if you want to transfer a partition or a whole hard drive to another pc. I think it will even copy parts of partition.
I have to say i like all the Paragon(well most) products.
I have patition managar 9 and drive back up and their rescue kit. All worthwhile apps to have in case of the misfortune of a hard drive failure……its a different form of security in my mind.
I forgot to mention this product too has a wizard which removes any stress from the process.

Soon, I will have most of the Paragon Software. I’ve always used their software for partitioning, but since I re-installed I lost Partition Manager and was using a very good freeware one. But…I can’t resist using Paragon’s software this time.
