Important update from Franck ( please read his review in the last part of the post ):
After reading the main article I add a supplementary precision.
The serial DO WORK with v8.
Actually as stated in my previous post, Babylon sells permanent licences (which entitles the owner to use a major version 6.x, 7.x, 8.x without time limitation) and subscription (which entitles to use the most up to date version while his subscription is not over).
So this serial works with v7 and v8 alike…
(it’s quite unlikely v9 will be released with a year, v8 being less than 2 months old)
Hi friends!
We were working on other HFs and Franck has “disturbed” our work with this find. We must publish it imediately because it expires tomorrow June 30 ( and there were only 20 000 free licence keys - but the promotion is working when we publish the article ).
Maybe not “a must” for all our readers but those who need it can get one year free access to the best there is in his field.
We have missed what our friend Seb is studying, but if he’s in the languages field this could be a great gift for his birthday. We’re pleasantly impressed of how many of you have wished him a happy birthday. Thank you for the confirmation of the fiendly spirit of the 4 Free community!
About the promotion:beside a great ( fast and handy ) software, the giveaway is a one year free access to the impressive list of dictionaries ( but not Oxford Dictionary ). The normal monthly subscription is $ 4,99, so you save approx $60 for one full year.
So after the free promotion for another great translation solution - Power Translator 11 Pro - here’s the best possible solution.
Babylon offers the most powerful, easy-to-use translation tool ever. Translate words and full texts in over 75 languages, or get dictionary definitions from over 1,400 dictionaries, glossaries and encyclopedias at one simple click.
.
.
This is not the latest version ( Babylon 8 ) so you do not get :
# Full Web page translation
# Full document translation (Word, PDF, Text)
# Integrates seamlessly into Microsoft office Spellers
But you still have the key features and benefits
- Simple and intuitive Single Click activation
- Enables full text translation
- The world’s knowledge of Wikipedia already inside
- Additional content from Oxford, Britannica, Larousse and other leading publishers
- Spell check for Hotmail, Gmail, Blogs.
- Auto completion feature, which completes words or phrases as you type
- many more

UPDATE : Franck’s Review
Babylon is an oustanding dictionnary tool. Actually I’ve been using it as a registered user for 4 or 5 years already.
Babylon sells permanent licenses or annual subscription (until v7 - it seems they prefered monthly subscription since v8).
Actually, I still use v6 on my computer - although it doesn’t work with firefox 3 (v7+ required).
Within this years, I also bought many premium dictionnaries, so I can say I’m a Babylon enthusiastic. ![]()
My personnal advice is to grab this offer while you can, although it can cost you a lot when the year is over!!!
Indeed, Babylon is a top-notch piece of software, but it’s really pricey. I well understand that its editor targets big multinational companies which buy thousands of licenses (this software is oviously indispensable in their case), but as a consequence, it’s quite expensive to buy (even with the subsription system !)
I love it, so I did it some time ago… but… and new major versions are released quite often (v6 was published in 2007 only !)
The concept of this app is pretty genial : just click on a word in any application, and a Babylon window will pop up with translations.
1/ Babylon can regognize verbs even if they are conjugated, can regognize plurals and so on Babylon can even recognize expressions in the sentence.
For example if I click on “fishes” in “I have other fishes to fry”, Babylon will recognize the whole expression “to have other fishes to fry” and show the corresponding entry in its english-english glossary. Above you’ll find the definitions and translations for “fish”.
2/ Babylon uses installed glossary that are on your local drive, but can also interrogate dictionaries that are hosted at their servers. You choose the languages you are interested in, and upon request, Babylon will check in glossaries you don’t even know of.
For example if I click on “.NET” in the following : “The .NET framework extends programming possibilies.”, Babylon proposes me the first paragraph of the .NET Framework Wikipedia article and a direct link to it; it also proposes me the definition of the .net in a FOLDOC glossary… Trust me, until I tested, I’ve never heard about such a glossary (and therefore it was not installed on my computer and Babylon was not set to look in this peculiar glossary).
[REM: Babylon doesn't require any .NET framework]
[REM2 : I did these tests with my Babylon v6 but it should be the same with the v8 offered today]
Babylon since v6 offers text translation using a web service. [Some of the translations, depending on the language couples are performed by LEC, from which we got power translator recently]
In v6, this function is quite simplistic… but I guess it’s much better in v8.
Speaking about the publishing company, it used to be a very nice one, with great personnalized support.
I don’t know, maybe 1 year and half or 2 years ago, they invalidated a lot of licenses - mine included - because of allegated overusage. They send a mail saying the old (permanent) license were invalidated and that these new serials should be used.
OK, concerned people got new serials, but I find the operation quite aggressive.
I don’t know if the company was then bought by a bigger one, or whatever, and I now found it not so sympathic.
Nothing peculiar to reproach but… OK, an example… On their website, their is a serial retrieval form. It recognizes me as a customer, but doesn’t give me my serials because I should purchase a license garanty or I don’t know what… Even if it’s only 6$, I don’t find it’s a good business sense proof.
If Babylon publisher reads that, you should (greatly) improve your customer service (as it was by the past).
Actually this agressive attitude is the ONLY reason why I didn’t upgrade to v7 than to v8.
So here is my dilemna. Should I upgrade to v8 using this offer?
It’s really tempting, although I don’t know what will happen when the year is over. Will I (easily) downgrade to v6 , or will I finally pay my upgrade (50$ but Babylon offer at least 4 times a year a 50% discount !) ?
The best would be another free promo, but…
As final words, I would say :
- it’s a wonderful piece of software. Really wonderful.
- it’s a software I use everyday; you can’t imagine how I miss it when I’m working on a computer where this is not installed.
- although it’s only for one year, if you don’t already own Babylon, go ahead… It’s definetely worth it.
For free, it’s a real bargain. (And, as far as I know that’s the first time I see such an important promo for this software, so…)

one of the very very hot finds ,it’s indeed best dictionary but not for me , because of faith limitations.

Wow, what a great find! I have used this program in the past, so I am familiar with how it works, I also enjoy the new Google Translator software (freeware) for web based translations (mostly from here!) So I am downloading it now!

Thank you for this info. I read this article in speed so may missed but wanna say that it is updatable to v8 (latest now). After updating, you get one year subscription. Their translation tool is much better than google translator. But it cannot detect the language automatically but Google translator can. So, if you wanna translate to the know language and you do not know the text language, you are in trouble. BTW, I recommend this.

Nice, this one should come in useful
And for those that registered with a gmail email address (which I recommend), you may want to activate one of the latest “gmail labs” tools - automatic translation! Gmail automagically detects the language and offers to translate (into English in my case). I was also pleasantly surprised at the quality of the translation from German to English

Hi ! Nothing new under the sun.
>> The XXX info sounds good but it has to be legal.
Oh! I am certainly NOT interested in doing any illegal or piracy thing. I am a bit confused about what was the “XXX” that is illegal. Is the promotion available only to new registrations on softwareload.de (so that I cannot use the login I created for downloading PowerDirector)? If so, I guess I am ineligible for this promotion since creating a different login would also be violation of their terms and conditions…
Or is “XXX” refering to the email I had sent you with some promotions/freeware, which I thought was all legal, but I could be wrong. Thank goodness I haven’t had a chance to register/download those myself as yet!! As I said, am not interested in piracy.
I must be very tired because I have understood a totally different thing.
It doesn’t matter.
Sorry!
Registration was quick, easy, and I was able to use my login information from the PowerDirector promotion. Babylon 8 (the newest version) works fine with the new key. The only two things that I disabled were the Babylon Orb and the run on startup. Thanks.

Hi!
A bit of information for the site…
Oddly when I signed up and entered the code, I was given a free copy of “Gehirn Jogging 4″ instead of Babylon, lol! Thinking I may have made a mistake, I went again and re-traced all of the steps and, still, once I entered the promo code, I was once again presented with Gehirn Jogging 4 instead of Babylon. Very strange. Has anyone else experienced this?
As always and even so, thanks to the guys at for-free, for the great find!

All the best.

Hi !
Thanks Franck and 4 Free! I tried the previously offered Power Translation and the translating wasn’t as good as I had expected but it might be because of the article itself, since Babylon also had trouble translating it properly. I think there was also a limited space for the text as it didn’t show the full text I entered. It also upgrades automatically to version 8 and the globe at the top of the screen looks awesome.

@Ceylan : Sorry if I’ve made myself unclear.
I bought years ago a perputal license for v5 (then perpetual upgrade to v6). V6 doesn’t work with firefox 3.x.
(jengott, surely the same kind of problem you encountered with chrome !)
I was wondering whether I’ll stick to my perpetual v6 or switching to v8 subscription we are presently offered.
Actually I made my mind, and decided to move to v8.
I’ll see when the year is over if :
- I buy a licence or
- renew a subscription
- I find a new promotion
- I go back to v6 (I don’t think)
I’ll tell later on what I think about the new features v8 brings.
Actually, when switching from v5 to v6, I wasn’t already convinced by the then new features… If the editor read this (twice !) I regret Babylon is becoming a translation tool (see comments in this page… translation tool = not useful to everyone) and is forgetting what made its utmost quality : to be a huge numeric (both online and offline) library triggered by a single mouse click ! (dictionaries, both mono and bilingual = useful to everyone, no?)
Hence this new globe is very beautiful, but maybe not a good idea.
I’ll tell in some days…

Hi!
Using the serial for version 7 will give you 99999days. Upgrading to version 8 will reduce this to 1 year. So it is up to you guys.
Thanks for the great find Frank.
2 points
Hi!
99999days for V 7 ?
The promo says 1 year licence.
Regards!
Installed version 7 OK. After this, Babylon suggested an automatic upgrade, and downloaded version 8 and installed it by itself after confirmation by my part. Did not need to enter key again. So I guess that if any new version is available in the next 12 months it will do it again automatically.

Good point!
Have done a little work with this software and after foolishly not reading the download instructions carefully managed to get it installed. The translations are good probably about 80% accurate which is very high. Easy to use a few clicks to change language and a quick copy and paste sorts out most of my needs. The in-depth review has all ready been done so i won’t waste space. Just to say that it seems to me that even if you don’t use translators often it is worth downloading as it’s accuracy is so much improved on the other applications mentioned. I certainly will be keeping it so… uns grandes Obrigado a franck de eu e meus amigos de brazilian que podem entender um pouco melhor agora me

Hi Peter!
Reading from Yaman, one can buy twice from the same account, using the promo code.
It’s not the same serial, is it ?
1/ Maybe I didn’t make myself clear : it’s NOT the same serial…
2/ As far as I can know, the one year starts the day you first enter the serial in Babylon, regardless of the day it was issued.
3/ I leave anyone free of drawing the (good) conclusion of 1 and 2…
Andy : Babylon says “de nada” for “you’re welcome”.
Is it correct (I don’t speak Portuguese at all !)
? points

And also…C, how did you do to have a 99999 days license?
I saw about that curiousity but wasn’t able to reproduce it…
Hi Franck!
Hmmm, I didn’t know about “that”.
Now it’s better this way. You understand, I hope.
Regards!
Franck : “de nada” in Portuguese for “you’re welcome” in English is absolutely correct!
and the 99999 days appear on an update/upgrade window when Babylon is going to download version 8. Did not show up in any other place. Checking on license details, it says it is for 12 month.
This is great! Thanks for free team and Franck!
It was several hours after I got the e-mail yesterday before I was in a position to go through the procedure, and I was concerned that it might be too late. Fortunately, it still worked.

Hi!
I’m glad it’s usefult.!
Hey I decided to give it a try but keep it for few more days.. it’s way to much of a software to write about it just after download.
As for me good sides are that it’s a great dictionary that integrates with wiki and other information services and seems really reliable.
As for the downside the most important thing about this software.. translation. It’s not always as good as provided by google. If We could use google as translation engine combined with this one..would be great. Don’t get me wrong I tested it with slides I had to learn from in Portuguese and google proved to be better although this probably won’t be the case always so if You need local translator and really good dictionary go for it while it lasts.

It’s finally over. The code is no longer working…
Regarding the soft, I’d just add two words.
- it’s really useful and convenient. Did you notice it can even “read” words that are embed in images (for instance, it perfectly works with the text in the buttons on 4free !)
Still very reliable and the smart dictionaries are a nice new feature (for instance, Babylon has an Hebrew-English dictionnary, and an English-French dictionnary… using both it can translate Hebrew straight to French. Maybe not very accurate, but very useful).
- Although document and web translation can be useful, I’m more convinced than ever that Babylon should focus on dictionaries and fast content access. Basically Babylon is a big library (hence its name). Because reorienting their software to translation, Babylon owners need to raise the price. A permanent license for Babylon is almost $100! That’s a lot…
They really should stay focused on their main goal and best quality and keep their product at an affordable price normal persons can actually buy.
Qui trop embrasse mal étreint… Just my two pennies…
