How To Comment The Promoted Softwares ?

Hi friends!

We have promised other steps for an enhanced interactivity on 4 Free. So after the decision to highlight the most interesting comments we’re trying to give some hints about how your comments can help more the community by showing a bit more focus on the softwares. Useless to say how important is this aspect in our negociations for our own promotions.

Like said 4 Free’s own promotions will work on a special script where this problem is already solved … But we’ll also keep revealing third parties promotions and it’s obvious that the actual comments section should be more focused on reviewing the softwares.

You’ll find in below just a few recommendations about the aspects one can touch in his comments about the promoted softwares . We have tried to simplify it at maximum.

Unless one likes very much a certain software and wants to share with us his complete review … NOBODY should exagerate and give answers to all 10 points from below. All we suggest is : since you decide to give us your feedback after trying that software … please take a look and see if you have something to say on one or two aspects from that list.

We’ll also highlight the 10 aspects in a widget on the site’s sidebar so you’ll always be able to see it while writing a comment.

Of course not everybody has the time, mood or knowledge to give us his feedback about one or more of the below mentioned issues … But you know that , in this case, a simple Hello is still enough to show you’re supporting our community .

Here are the recommended aspects :

1. Infos about the developer

What you know / heard / read - good or bad - about the developer.

2. Key benefits.

What is the software exactly doing. Does it have special / unique features ?

3. Already a user ?

Have you ever use it ( or another version of it ) ? If not: what is your actual solution for that kind of utility?

4. Dimensions

Installer + Installed on HD

5. Features

Main features that you have noticed / liked / desliked .

6. The GUI

Modern or ugly , handy or disastrous , etc …

7. Tech details.

Computer resources used , registry keys installed, etc …

Important : please specify what are your computer’s parameters .

8. Bottom-line

Your Pros,  Cons and conclusion.

9. Your actual solution

If you’re using a different software please tell us a few words about it … And in conclusion: why this one and not the promoted solution?

10. Freeware alternatives

If you know or have ever used them.

…….

That’s it! Like said we have tried to keep this list simplified but if there’s any very important aspect we have missed, please notify us.

And again:  we would be very grateful if you touch in your comments one or two above mentioned aspects.

A big THANK YOU to all our active members!

Best regards to all our readers!

This is a good idea, some structure for folks who might not know where to begin or what to write about. I like it, especially the freeware alternatives part :) I am looking forward to see how that widget works. You could also add a remark on what type of users the software would be useful for, like graphic designers, pro/amateurs, advanced users or useful for all, that sort of thing. Some software are a little ambiguous on that part. For eg. Picasa for average home users vs Gimp for advanced users. Will you be adding WYSIWYG formatting to user comments?

As far as the commenting structure goes, I was thinking the other day that the system on Slashdot seems good, where the comments are graded and folks can choose what grade of comments they wish to see, and comments below that level don’t get shown (users choose the level they wish to see). Similar to what is done here, difference being the users put points there instead of the moderators. Though I don’t know how that point system can be applied to friends here who like to say hi, without looking rude. Another nice system I like is on Lifehacker, where frequent/sensible contributors are given stars.

Anyway, just thinking out loud, I don’t know what new plans you guys have for the site, but I am looking forward to them. BTW, I got through my exams, taking a break now, so looking forward to trying out all the hot finds!! Take care and cheers!!

Hi Nessa! I know you’re having your summer holiday.
First of all we have used the wrong word by saying widget. No, it’s just the list you can already see. Sorry!
About adding the type of users … Believe me we’ve had that on the list , and a few others … But he have finally cut it, trying to simplify the list. I’m sure you’ll understand.
After all everyone is free to talk about that aspect too, in his comment.
We’ll keep the actual comment system.
    Cheers !

    Not on the actual script.
    Not so important, after all!

I think this is a really good outline for a good review. As 4 Free puts it, for most people just commenting on a few of the listed areas would offer a great deal of information when combined with reviews of other active users. The format also provides for those who may not have much time to do a full-fledged review or those that may not have the know-how or technical knowledge to go into the details of a particular application. There is at least one area in the list that every active user can comment on without it being a hassle. If every active member could comment on at least one aspect of a given software then that would a be a wealth of information for promoters and software publishers which if I understand correctly would mean more software promotions for us all.

I would imagine the more constructive comments we can get posted here the more likely developers will look to the site to promote their software for feed back purposes. So come on everyone the more feedback we give the more freebies we can get. Also unless i am missing something that already exists, (which is more than likely) how about a area where we can post our finds to you. Doesn’t have to be a public posted comment or require any acknowledgment (unless published of course), Just somewhere to let you know our finds and the relevance can be decided by yourselves. An example being as follows. I have no idea of the good bad or ugly of this or if it is time limited or if it is commonly known etc etc. It is no use to me but maybe to other people. You are the experts on checking things like this. XXXXX i have no idea of the relevance of this but maybe if we had a section where we can post this to you without cluttering up other feeds and if you think it’s worth it you can publish it somewhere.

    Hi Andy!
You have just submitted your find ( like you did it before, too ). :-)
Why do we need a special place ? ( but promise to think better about it )
We have also promised to Franck a solution to list other submitted promos - the ones we decide to not publish in a separate article. Working on it.
    Cheers!

I like this list. You have made it comprehensive but easy and ordered.I particularly like your idea to add a sidebar as a guide for those commenting.I would find this especially helpful.None of my comments have been planned, they are more spontaneous,so this should definitely help me.
I am looking forward to see how this site develops and I am sure you have some great things up your sleeve.Good work guys.

I have only one question: we can submit only reviews about the software you present or also about software we use?
    Thank you!

    2 points
    Thank you for asking that!
In comments you should normally talk about the softwares from the main article.
BUT we ave just published this:
    http://for-free-on-internet.com/2009/07/review-your-fav-freeware-and-free-webware/
… Saying that we’re accpting reviews from real 4Freers.
Unfortunately you’ll have to wait 3 month ( and be active ) in order to prove you’re really joining our Project.I hope you will understand.
    Regards!

    Ok, I’ll wait for 3 months…
I don’t know where asking this other question, so I try here: how can I know how much points I have? My memory is not so good to remember all my posts…
IMHO this site haven’t a structure so clear, I have some difficulties in finding old articles and general information; where can I see to better understanding his structure?
Is there an address to write questions? This is not the correct place, i know…. sorry!
    Thank you!

Thanks for showing interest in our site’s organization.
You’ll have our email once you qualify/receive the first HF notification.
Maybe it’s better to simply talk about softwares in order to bring a real contribution.
We do accept ideas from proven well intentioned friends. I’m sure you’d do the same thing.

This feedback is about the promo “WinAVI Video Capture - A Permanent Giveaway From The Well Known Developer”

I downloaded the WinAVI Video Capture software and I must say that it is good. The only downside about it is that, whenever I recorded anything from my tv, there won’t be a sound when I replay it. I have a tv card installed in my computer. I tried recording a R Medrid vs AC Milan match, sadly, there was no sound but action only. Has anyone encountered the same problem or this programme is country dependent (I’m in Africa by the way). Thanks in advance for your help.

Thank you for the feedback. Personally I haven’t encountered this problem.

I was using the Advance System Care free version from IOBIt for almost a month before i knew i can upgrade to the pro version for free.

It is probably the best system utility i have ever used. My 2.4GHz Compaq desktop with 2 gb RAM, running on Windows XP Home genuine had become slow, even the boot up took about 1 minute. But after using Advance System Care and the Smart defrag from IOBit, my pc boots in 20 to 30 seconds and shuts down in 10 to 12 seconds. It has become very fast and stable. Another excellent feature in Adv Sys Care is that it removes spyware, private files(browsing cookies, etc), fixes registry problems and removes junk files. The additional utilities like Internet booster, etc are an added advantage and a must have for every PC. Upgrading to pro offers better features like auto update, auto care, etc. The graphical user interface looks quite attractive I give Advance System Care Pro a 10/10

Thank you IOBit and thank you 4free team for giving me the best solution for my PC
