Paragon Hard Disk Manager 9.5 Special Edition - 4 Free ( Outdated )

Hi Friends!

We must admit : Mayur is faster than us for some specific promotions. And this brings more strenght and importance to our project because this great friend ( and a few others ) proves how good we can do together. It’s very probable that we would have had it anyway … It’s very probable that 4 Free would have been the first to talk about it … But HE kindly told us about the find, a few days ago. :-)

Thank you Mayur!

Talking about contribution and participation, please bear in mind that TALKING ABOUT SOFTWARES IS MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN FINDING PROMOTIONS ! Obviously this is what’s important for the software developers we’re negociating with. PROMOTIONS WILL COME ANYWAY !

Today we have a great confirmation for two of 4 Free’s principles :

- All sharewares can be found 4 Free on Internet.

- There will always be a new promotion for an upgraded version of any older giveaway you have grabbed.

You’ve grabbed the great Paragon HD 8,5, a few month ago … Now you can have the SE for V 9,5 . So expect yourself to have a similar situation for all products in our Paragon series ( and not only ).

In our opinion this is the most powerful "All-in-one suite to completely protect, maintain and manage your PC - Hard Disk Manager (HDM) provides you with all of the tools you need to manage today’s hard drives, including partitioning, backup, cloning, defrag, hard drive disposal, system management and system recovery.
This comprehensive package of functionality is accessible from one easy-to-use interface, so you don’t need to buy and install each package individually by saving you time and money."

.

.
So it is the Special Edition ! The differences to the “normal” edition - Hard Disk Manager 2009 Suite ( $ 49,95 ) are ( this is what you don’t get ) :

- Free Updates
- Technical Support
- Advanced Recovery CD (based on Win PE 2.0)

Very acceptable, if you ask us! Of course there are a few professional extras in Hard Disk Manager 2009 Professional ( $ 129,95 ), like :

- Synthetic Backup, Cyclic Backup, Automated Backup and more

- Convert Dynamic Disks to Basic Disks

- Backup Dynamic Volumes

- Restore Dynamic Volumes

- Change Primary Slots, Convert Dynamic Disks to Basic, Downgrade NTFS version

- Execute commands before/after Backup

- E-mail notifications upon task completion

- Command Line Support and Script Generator

See all Editions’ Comparison here

But we’re sure you’re very interested by What’s New in Paragon Hard Disk Manager 9.5

- Support of the File backup. You can now back up only information you really need, thus saving time and the backup The term backup originates from the time when the best way to protect valuable information was to store it in form of archives on external media. It’s become now a general notion to mean making duplications of data for protection purposes. storage space. Besides by making incremental images to this kind of backup you can easily keep it updated.

- File backup to a sector image. It is a unique technology on the market so far that bridges two principally different approaches of the data backup: the file-based backup and the sector-based backup. With its help you can now create a sector-based backup of your system to get it back on track in minutes in case of a virus attack or a hardware malfunction and then just make file-based incremental images to the previously created sector-based backup to keep updated only information that is critical for you. Thus you will considerably save your system resources.

- Adaptive Restore. It is a special technology that enables to successfully recover Windows Vista or 2008 Server to a different hardware configuration. If you need to replace failed hardware and cannot find an exact match for your original system specifications, this feature will help you out. Besides you can even restore a backup image of your real system to a virtual one and vice versa.

- Support of the Windows Installer MSI package. It is the latest engine for the installation, maintenance and removal of software on Windows-based operating systems. With its help you can now install the product remotely or in the silent mode, make use of powerful deployment capabilities, etc.

- Improved 64-bit support. You don’t need to reboot your computer from the Recovery CD every time an operation cannot be accomplished under 64-bit Windows any more. The program will automatically reboot to a special mode to complete the operation.

-  Support of GUID Partition Table (GPT). It is the next generation of a hard disk partitioning scheme is a set of rules, constraints and format of the on-disk structures to keep information on partitions located on a hard disk. There are known several partitioning schemes. The most popular of them is the so-called DOS partitioning scheme. It was introduced by IBM and Microsoft to use multiple partitions in the disk subsystems on IBM PC compatible computers. Another popular partitioning scheme is the so-called Logical Disks Model (LDM) that originates from the UNIX mainframe systems. Veritas Executive accommodates a simplified version of LDM to the Windows 2000 operating system. Windows 2000 and XP support two quite different partitioning schemes: the old DOS partitioning scheme and the new Dynamic Disk Management (DDM). The problem is that earlier versions of Windows do not support DDM. In addition, most hard disk utilities do not support it as well. developed to lift restrictions of the old MBR is the 0th sector of the disk. MBR (Master Boot Record) contains important information about the disk layout: - The used partitioning scheme; - The starting records of the Partition Table; - The standard bootstrap code (or the initial code of boot managers, disk overlay software or boot viruses). Generally, the 0th sector is used for similar purposes in all existing partitioning schemes. The MBR capacity is not sufficient to contain sophisticated boot programs. That’s why the on-boot software is allowed to use the entire 0th track of the disk. For example, boot managing utilities such as LILO, GRUB and Paragon Boot Manager are located in the 0th track.. GPT disks are now supported by Windows Vista, Server 2008, Mac OS X and Linux.

- Support of the latest Linux kernel. It offers support of a wider range of hardware configurations, including the brand new Intel ICH9 chipset.

- Integration of the Linux/DOS recovery media is a CD/DVD disc, a USB flash card or even a floppy disk from which you can boot for maintenance or recovery purposes. directly to the installation package. You can now burn it with the Recovery Media Builder any time you want. Besides it will also be used as a bootable part of any bootable backup image created with the program.

- Linux/DOS recovery environment on a USB flash drive. With the help of the Recovery Media Builder you can now create Linux/DOS bootable media on a USB flash drive that may later be used for maintenance or recovery purposes.

- Dual boot Backup Capsule. Now you’ve got the choice to launch the Linux or PTS DOS recovery environment every time you start up the computer. With its help you will be able to run utilities under Linux or PTS DOS, and that way to get access to your hard disk for maintenance or recovery purposes.

- A context sensitive hint system for all functions of the program. You can now get a detailed description to any setting, control, or field of the program just by clicking the hint button and then the object you need.

- Automatic data exclusion. An advanced system of filters will help you automate the process of building up contents of the future backup image, by excluding irrelevant data such as movies, music, etc.

- Support of Blu-ray discs. You can now burn backup images to high capacity Blu-ray discs. A single layer Blu-ray can store 25 GB, more than five times the capacity of a single layer DVD.

UPDATE

Maybe not all our readers are paying attention to the comments section ( although they should :-) … ) … So we think it is not too late to higlight the ( usual ) important info in Mike’s (Notes) comment :

I was still using version 8.0SE. Hadn’t upgraded to v8.5SE, as I picked up your hot finds for the 9.0SE versions of Paragon’s Partition Manager and Drive Backup. Hard Disk Manager is, as far as I can tell, the combination of these 2 apps. Now I can get rid of them and consolidate under this one HDM 9.5SE app.

Another reason I hadn’t retired version 8.0SE is that UBCD4Win (the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows) includes a plugin to incorporate HDM8 on the CD. For those of you who don’t know, this is a free and highly recommended BartPE-based boot CD. It allows you to boot into a virtual Win XP operating system that gives you access to your hard disk version of Windows for troubleshooting, running virus and trojan scans, imaging partitions for backup, etc. You can even access the web to get info and update the virus definitions that were burnt on the CD.

The advantage here is that your hard disk system is not running; it’s just another data partition. You are running from the separate Win XP system copied into memory from the CD (or DVD). So files in your hard disk system partition can be accessed like any other for deletion, replacement, making a backup image (a perfect snapshot), etc. And viruses and trojans can be tracked down and removed more safely while they are inactive. Another advantage is that you can do all this even if your normal system won’t boot at all. Then you can look inside and try to fix it.

Understand that you can not download UBCD4Win as a .iso image to directly burn a CD/DVD. As with all BartPE-based disks, they do not have a license to give away free copies of Win XP. Instead you download a “builder” program which automatically copies the needed files from your legally-licensed Win XP installation disc to build the CD/DVD operating system. It also allows you to select from a huge number of free file, hard disk, network and other tools, antivirus and antitrojan apps, browsers, etc, all included as optional plugins which you select from a menu. Then the builder creates and burns the .iso image of a CD or DVD.

Some plugins for commercial apps are also included. In this case the builder finds the installed app on your system and copies the files needed to put it on the CD. Paragon HDM 8 is one such app. (Easeus is another included partitioning app, both as a complete free version and a Pro plugin.)

It will be some time before I can test this, but I suspect that the plugin for HDM 8 may also work for HDM 9.5. If not it’s likely it will be updated by someone on the UBCD4Win team or forums. As it has been updated a couple of times, it’s probably already compatible with 8.5. If HDM 9.5 will work with UBCD4Win’s plugin, then one can basically make their own Advanced Recovery CD, one of the features not included in this SE version. Note that BartPE was originally a way to make a Win PE type CD, which was proprietary to Microsoft and not easy to obtain.

I know from comments that others here use UBCD4Win. If you try this before I get to it please let us know. Hope this is useful.

Great way to start off the week. Thanks Mayur and 4 Free. Don’t know if I’ll be able to offer any feedback on Disk Manager 9.5 for a while, but when I can I’ll be sure to let you guys know.

    Gonna try this one…
I’m currently using HDM 2008 which I bought last year.
    I was considering upgrading (about 20$) to 2009 edition. :) Thanks Mayur ! A lot !

I’ll try it as soon as I can.
Anyway I’d like to find what are the extra features of the advanced recovery cd !
And this is the kind of software I like to have in French. Currently in my account, I can only upgrade my French v2008 to English v2009 anyway.

If it turns out that there were some improvement (especially in backup module GUI) and they allow me to upgrade to French, I’ll buy the upgrade anyway.
This is really a top-notch product that saved my bacon many times… many !

Greetings,my friends.I must say I’m really impressed with this one.Although the download was really slow, took me about 1hr,It’s well worth it.Installed it ok,and jumped right to the defrag tool, among the miriad of other tools that make up this jewel :) Something that I’ve never seen in other defrag tools is that this one needs to go in boot time to actually defrag the drive, because some files were in use,(was defragging the system partition),so i did. It’s really fast too,got it done in about half an hour.As I said ,I tried only the defrag tool, just to have a feel for this goodie,it would take me a lot longer to try all the other features. To cut it short:when it comes to HD management, this tool is like a swiss knife.Thank you 4free team and mayur! And by the way, yes,my name is O…;)

‘though HDM95 doesn’t create an advanced recovery CD based on Win PE, it DOES create a recovery CD based on Linux. It’s a 58.550KB iso file that is created with the 3rd. option of the installer. On the 4th. option, there’s the User manual in pdf and access to the Paragon’s knowledge base.

    1 point
Hi ( again ) Mario! The user manual ( or help files ) is the first thing one should look for, when installing software.

Hi guys! This software is first class ( as well as the 4Free team )! I’ve used Paragon products in my days of the corporate world ( read as employed ). Everybody needs this program. Like they say, it’s not a question of if a hard drive will fail, it’s a question of when. Be prepared. With this there is no excuse!

I downloaded it with FDM (12 connections :-)) with 120 KB/s and it took me about 40 minutes. I integrated version 8.5 with UBCD4Win last week, and now the new version arrived :-).
It is very hard to track Your tempo.
I tried backup, defrag and it looks fantastic.
I must try new adaptive restore feature that looks promising.

    Hi Guys,
Am hoping that someone more computer savvy than myself could explain to me what the advantage is of having a restore disk winpe based rather than Linux based please?
I have only used Winpe based and am wondering if Linux based is more complicated for the less computer savvy…
Just a tip I have learnt from doing ghost restores:
1:ALWAYS check that you can restore your image after making it…too many times I have seen people make images and when they do need to restore realise their image was corrupt..always check it before needing it.
2:I have found that I get a cleaner restore if I reformat the C partition first….
    Thanks
    BillyT

    2 points
Thank you for the two tips Billy!
Regarding the restore disk Linux based here”s what Paragon says :

There is no need to be afraid of “Linux” here, because:
    1. It easily works with Windows partitions.
    2. Knowledge of Linux is unnecessary, you’ll see nice GUI with menus, wizards, etc.

    More details here!

Believe it or not I was actually looking for a new disk Management Software. I was not happy with Acronis.I went to Donation Coder (I am a member since 2007) to read their product reviews. I saw a reference to Paragon software. I decided to check this out. I landed here at for free on internet. I read about this Disk Manager for free. I said “what the heck, try to get it.” I got it! I installed it and partitoin my C:\ drive No problem. Something Acronis Disk Director could not do! Since then I have backed every thing up.
Thank-you for helping me get exactly what I was looking for.

    Hi !
    I’m a bit confused here.
Acronis Disk Director cannot partition ?
    This ADD ?
    http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/diskdirector/
    It says:

… Partition Manager allows you to resize, move, copy, split, and merge partitions without losing your data …

It would be a great benefit to your readers if you would edit the top portion of the web page for these offers when you find that they have expired. I doubt that few visitors read all comments. Like me, they would then go through the frustration and disappointment of the failed attempt to download for nothing. I imagine many simply give up and go away. I chose to come here to report my experience, and happened to see Max’ comment just above. I’m disappointed that the trouble could have been easily avoided.

Hi, everyone, I would like to share you all with a best free partition manager. This partition

software is called Partition Wizard Home Edition 4.0. It is a free software with powerful functions.

With its help, you can do partition managements for all 32 and 64 bit Windows Operating Systems. I’
ve downloaded it and used it for partition management of my PC. It is really amazing that I can
recover my lost files that deleted by mistake. You can go to http://www.partitionwizard.com for more
