Power Translator 11 Pro ( worth $125 ) - 4 Free (Updated )

Hi friends !

Not the HF no 15 ( coming soon ). But a new promotion on CHIP.de for a software that might not be too popular among 4Free’ers who have lately grabbed goodies like CyberLink PowerDirector 7 Ultra, Everest Ultimate Edition 4.6 or Paragon Hard Disk Manager 9.5 .

We have the pleasure to co-credit again Nikola for this find. Thank you!

Taking into consideration our broken english we should be among the ones needing this professional translation software. :-)

( What’s funny is that  those who are being ironic - on other sites, of course - about our broken english … show themselves awful english grammar and spelling mistakes. And they are english natives! ( unlike us ). In fact, why wonder ?! … ) :-)

.

Power Translator 11 Pro - developer Language Engineering Company, LLC ( LEC.com ) - is obviously a “niche product” mainly needed for specific purposes. We mean: it is not necessary a product for the grand public. It is very well rated and reviewed by experts. We have enjoyed and we recommend a very elegant review : “Elegance Translated” by Eric Vogt

Power Translator Pro helps grow businesses by providing more access to technical subjects and business documents. It is the most advanced version of our economical desktop software line.

* Translate letters, emails, chat, blogs and instant messages
* Translate from any program effortlessly
* Accurate, fast, flexible

Languages
Pro versions provide bidirectional translation between English and one other language (either Spanish, Portuguese, French, German or Italian).
Online Translation

In addition to the software, you receive a 2-month subscription to LEC’s unique and powerful Translate DotNet, giving you access to 21 languages and over 300 language pairs.

FUNCTIONALITIES

This promotion is not about the latest Power Translator 12 Pro ( worth $125.00 ). So you do not get these latest features and improvements :

.

# Speech-to-text
# Text-to-Speech
# Hover Translation
# Translate Selection
# Text Capture

.

But you do get important features like:

LEC’s advanced user interfaces:

* LogoTrans translates text that you type, paste, or drop.
* ClipTrans translates any text that is selected and copied.
* MirrorTrans automatically monitors another application window and translates whatever text appears there.
* TransIt translates a sentence or two and quickly pops it into another application, such as an instant message or chat window.

- Plus two specialized applications and industry-specific dictionaries:

* File Trans translates ‘text only’, Microsoft Word, HTML, RTF, PDF, and XML files.
* Dictionary is used to create and browse dictionaries. Quickly and easily add words or translations not already in the main or subject dictionaries. This allows you to increase the accuracy of translations and create a dictionary tailored to your needs.
* Untranslated word list. LogoTrans includes a window listing all words that have no translation in any loaded dictionary and saves the list to a file. This helps create dictionaries to improve translation accuracy.

Other features:

Batch processing text files
Technical Dictionaries - Include specialised business, computer, medical, and law dictionaries for more accurate translations of text in these subjects.
Internet Explorer toolbar - Integrates with Internet Explorer toolbar
Firefox toolbar - Integrates with Firefox toolbar
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook add-ins
Automatic language selection ( 7 languages ) : English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian

Our conclusion:

Pros: Normally a must have for professionals needing fast translations for a big number of documents or webpages ( where they must only add their final touch ). All the above mentioned features help them to save valuable time. So grabb it for professional use!

Otherwise …

Cons -  Getting it for free with this promotion can be a attractive for any computer user, BUT take into cosideration that:

- CHIP.de does not mention Vista compatibility ( although other sites announce it as Vista compatible ). Sorry we have only tested it on XP !
- It needs 410 Mo space on your HD;
- It installs toolbars ( widgets ) in your browsers;
- It can slow down your PC  ( unless it is very competitive ) because it asks for a good amount of your computer resources ( for more complex translations, of course. mainly if you use it’s internet features )

How to grab this Power Translator 11 Pro for free ?

( click on the screenshots for original size view )

The normal procedure has these steps:

1. Go to this Registration Page fand fill in your email address, names and country. Hit “Hier erhalten Sie Ihre Seriennummer”

2. You’ll imediately receive an email message. Click on “klicken Sie bitte auf den folgenden Link.”

3. You’ll arrive on another page where you should click on the link http://www.lec.com/utils/PowerTranslator11ProRegistration.asp

4. That link will take you to a page where you can generate your Access Code by writing your email address and clicking on “Generate Access Code”

5. Download it from the CHIP download Page ( click on “Zum Download” then choose the CHIP Online Server or BitTorrent Server ). The zipped download is huge: 551.5 MByte !!!

.

( click on the screenshots for original size view )

Notes on installation: After unzipping run the “InstallTranslate.exe” ( and not directly the setup.exe file from the “InstallerFiles” ). You’ll be first asked for the Access Code and only afterwards the setup.exe will be automatically activated.
Then choose the language. Remember it will install 410 Mo on your HD !

That’s it! Enjoy!

Thank you again Nikola!

.

UPDATE 1 A few workarounds from Franck :

1/ OK I dislike the fact that it installs IE and Firefox addins without asking. Regarding the firefox one it can be easily uninstalled through the firefox addin manager.
Anyway, this is a great fonctionnality, so I think I will keep it !

2/ Same for Word addin.
I have some trouble with this addin, as Word sends me a security alert because of an expired certificate.
There is a patch on the editor website : http://www.lecsupport.com/support/lec_office_addins_updater.exe
But it doesn’t seem to work. At least on my computer where I use office 2007.

3/ This security alert at each word launch is really annoying.
If you have the same problem, here is the fix. It works with office 2007 and, if problem occurs and patch doesn’t work with older versions, it should work with older versions alike.

In word 2007, go to word option, then security management center.
Then click on the security management center parameters button.
Go to approved emplacements.

Now you have two choices.

1/ The addin is located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\STARTUP
(I assume C:\ is your system hard drive)
You add this folder as an approved emplacement. Restart word.

or, my fav solution

2/ you should see that %appdata%\Microsoft\Word\Startup is already an approved emplacement (it must be something like C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup)
Just move the “power translator.dot” file from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\STARTUP to this one.
Restart word ! :)

UPDATE 2

From a second comment from Franck :

2/ Contrary as stated in the article above you are no obliged to go through English. Any combination of available languages can be used.
Just go to translation option, and choose the base language (default is german).

Franck! That general presentation is obviously a quote from the official site. ( and they’re reffering to the bilingual pro versions )
If you ask me this is the Euro version ( but for V11 and not V12 ) - obviously multilingual.
See here : http://www.lec.com/power-translator-compare.asp

3/ This app comes with specialized dictionaries embeded (business, law, computer…). They can be enabled through options.

… 5/ That said, I want to underline to advantage of this software over google or any other online solution.
First, you can translate not only webpage, but also doc and docx files, pdfs, txts…
My test .doc files layout remained unchanged.
From office there is also an online translation module (unless I’m mistaken). But it’s only for single words or short sentences. And like every online solution, we must accept to send your data over the web… sometimes you just don’t want.

6/ I guess it’s a keeper. To mean, it mainly relies on office integration. That said, it’d like to be able to save some space, uninstalling unwanted languages. Russian for instance will be of absolute no use to me… :)
Maybe there is a workaround. I don’t know.

7/ I wanted to install my copy on my laptop which have no access to internet. I then discovered that the serial verification was made online.
Just to say that I accept this kind of anti piracy mechanisms when I get the prog for free. Would I have paid 130$ for a software, I think I would be fully legit to ask some guaranty about my ability to reinstaller it whenever I want, not having to know whether their server is down or not and why…
(I took me some time, but I finally managed to install it on my laptop
:) !)

Thank you Franck!

Installed and working fine on my Vista Home Premium.

I tested it on Acer 8920G Pr T5750 RAM 3GB installed Win 7 Ultimate x86 (b7100). It nstalled perfectly without any problem. Not an attractive interface. It feels that a 14 year kid tried to build a layout. No language is installed by default on computer. Then what the hell is 557MB for? Have to connect to Internet to get language pairs for translation. You need Internet connection for any translation cuz it connects to it server to translate your text. In this case, 5MB program is enough if have to connect to Internet for translation. I disconnected Internet to check offline translation but no translation. When you connect to server, it needs login (email) and password (the key you generated).
I am thankful to you for this good find but I am fully unsatisfied with its working. I think, just for translation, Google Translator is much better than this. No! its not for me.

    2 points
    Wow ! You’re obviously unsatisfied. :-)
Google Translator is not at all accurate. At least for the moment.
But if you do not need translations for professional reasons, of course G Translator is enough.

Just what I need. I will be happy to give a full review once it has downloaded, which at my connection speed will be anytime in the next 6 hours. As an Englishman living in Brazil with very poor Portuguese I will use a lot and be able to let everyone know how accurate the translations actually are, or should I say the wife will. At least in Portuguese. For all those using Google translator just be aware the accuracy of translation is very poor and if this program works well anyone using these translators a lot I would advise to grab while you can just in case it is high quality.

The test for any translator program or website is to convert from language A to B to C and back to A. The results are almost always hilarious. It just goes to show we’re a L-O-N-G way from artificial intelligence which can pick up the nuances in languages. Add in body language, and you’ve got another whole dimension to the matter! Having said that, there is a place for basic language translation. Just don’t trust these programs for anything important.

    1 point
Sounds logical. Nevertheless when you have a big amount of translations ( or even one big document ) it’s always faster to adjust the translation made by one of this softwares … Than the classic direct translation.
It seems that there are statistics saying that this is 60 % faster.
This is why professionals are very interested in this kind of softwares.

For those who found out this piece of software is helpful, you might also be interested in a free translation software, Lingoes. It’s available in several languages. And there are lots of dictionaries out there free to download. The software itself is ligthweight, though the file size of dictionaries, which can be downloaded separately, is big.

The software also provides some other useful tools, such as unit converter, time zone converter and more.

Try it if you are interested.

1/ I don’t know why Imran see no installed languages, as there are many.
Maybe somethink went wrong during the installation. Maybe just try launching the app again…
Actually, you can set this app to use remote editor servers (and you need a subscription) or to use localhost (your own computer serving traductions thanks to the installed languages).

2/ Contrary as stated in the article above you are no obliged to go through English. Any combination of available languages can be used.

    Results were satisfying, no more.
Google was a little better, I think.
I also tried to translate this very page. Google produced a page in French, whereas PTP11 left it untouched.
Therefore, I finally decided that the firefox plugin was useless (if google is better). I removed it using firefox addin manager (it required two steps : first deactivate; then uninstall)

5/ That said, I want to underline to advantage of this software over google or any other online solution.

Not bad, though personally I prefer Google Translate Client which is not as heavy as power translator.

Downloaded, installed, and registered fine on Windows Vista Home. I don’t know how much I will use this but it certainly will be much more reliable than Google translate or Yahoo babelfish. Thanks 4 Free, Nickola, and also Franck for the workarounds.

Also for anyone interested in quick, reliable, and online single word translations, I have found http://www.wordreference.com/ to be terrific. It offers bidirectional translations from English to Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Russian.

Is this software usefull ? depends on what you are using it for and your knowledge of the language you wish to translate to. Once i played around with it a bit it is easy enought to sort the languages out, pre installed and on the server. Just right click on the language box and the most popular languages are there and easy to change. I used the Portuguese to English and visa versa. Is it better than google etc in it’s translation?, YES. But my advice to anyone is only use it for important documents if the end language is your own. If you need to translate into your own language then it is easy to see where the errors occur, they are minimal for example I had a problem where it would use the the infinitive “to play” instead of just “play”. So…if you just want to understand the meaning of the text then this is an easy to use and as accurate as they come piece of software. But as with all this type of software there are always limitations. But for anyone who needs help to understand documents etc then i would grab this while you can.

LOL - I always have problems! On the download site when I select the first download option (via http) the website asks for a username and password, and if you do not give one you cannot download. :-/

I have no idea why! It’s working as I’m writing this answer.
And it cannot be a matter of IP seeing where your IP is from.
Try it with a proxy, anyway! ( if you need the software )

This wasn’t for me but I passed it on to a friend of mine who does some translation work. She told me it was a decent software though it is still governed by translating literally rather than naturally, hence the need for a ‘final touch.’However it is a big time saver for large documents and is a worthy DL.
If you do download it,make a careful note of the access number as it isn’t mailed to you.If you get it wrong, you will have to supply another email.
BTW,Franck’s link to the patch worked fine on Word 2003 so thanks to him and especially to Nikola for finding the offer

I think there is some spyware in the software. After booting, all the IDs from the Yahoo! Messenger was in the translation window. It was in the application, third from the left shown above in the first figure under Functionalities. Have uninstalled the software.

    ?
It looks like you’re the only facing that problem.
We’re checking the proposed software with different known security solutions before sharing it.
    There were no problems!

The package downloaded smoothly and installed correctly on WinXP SP2. I used the complete installation. The installation gives a choice of languages, and that selection determines the language of the installation prompts as well as the user interface when the installation is complete. Unfortunately, the downloadable version offers little which will be of use to English speakers. Although the product description provided above states that “Pro versions provide bidirectional translation between English and one other language (either Spanish, Portuguese, French, German or Italian)”, that is not the case with the downloadable version available through CHIP. The CHIP download page notes that the product language is German (”Sprache: Deutsch”). It is only possible to translate between German and the five languages noted above, plus Russian. Translation to English is only available for German texts, and English can only be translated into German. In an “English version,” translation would be available to and from English to all the included languages.

    Hi!
To be honest I have not kept this software on my PC but I don’t remember to have this german language limitation.
… And other comments don’t confirm your version.
I don’t have the time to install it again, sorry!
    Are you sure ?

    18 July, 2009

Jeff, this version can have any of the available languages as a “base” language.
So no need to use German, you can do an English-Russian translation.

    As I stated above :

“2/ Contrary as stated in the article above you are no obliged to go through English. Any combination of available languages can be used.
Just go to translation option, and choose the base language (default is german).”

Franck, you’re absolutely right. If anyone else reads this thread, they might be interested in knowing that in order to get to the “translation option” they need to open “LEC Power Translator 11″ application from the installed Start Menu icon, then right-click on the LEC logo (a blue oval with a green border) in the window which opens, select “Options” from the menu, and then select the “language pairs” tab. That is the “translation option” you mentioned. The base language is set from the drop-down menu opposite the radio button “All pairs to or from” (English, in my case). Thanks for the clarification.

The procedure works well (I am now a >registrierter Benutzer) until I try to actual download the program! (Page not found). Is it my browser only, or has the offer been removed?

    You’re right Curt, thank you!
But since you’ve got your registration you just need a good DL. We’ll try to find it somewhere else.
