Sorry for the unwanted delay. We are spending a few days in a isolated island with very poor internet connection solutions.
We imagine there are many usual readers who are also spending their vacations and we hope they are enjoying their summer as much as we do.
This should be the reason of so many inactive friends in the last 2-3 weeks … And that among the old friends; because there are also very active new readers. Welcome friends !:-)
Bottom line : there were 29 previously qualified members who were not notified this time. No big deal, you can simply say “Hi again !” in order to be back on the list.
Since we were not able to finish fresh articles, today we’re using an already written article. Note that, if we are not wrong, we haven’t seen it on other sites. There was another registration page published somewhere in 2008 on different sites, but it is not working anymore.
There were more important and brand new promos to be published, but let’s see what about the oportunity to grabb this application from the leading provider of Website design software.
We have already found promotions for similar products from Serif desktop publishers : PagePlus 9 and PagePlus 8 , but - though very qualitative - they are rather “page” and “PDF” focused, and not “web-oriented” like NetObject Fusion.
Fusion 9 isn’t just a page builder – it’ll create and organise an entire website.
Ok ! It’s “up-to-XP only”, and it’s not the latest version - V 11 … Not even V 10 so this is what you don’t get :
A. The new features for V 10 ( See detais HERE. )
- New User Workspace Take control of your work environment and be more efficient than ever. With a Tasks Checklist and customizable workspace, Fusion 10 gives you the freedom to work the way you want to work.
- More Precision using CSS - Gain complete creative control using new CSS2.1 tools. See your custom CSS styles while you work and use the built-in properties grid to add custom effects with no coding knowledge needed.
- “More Flash, Mora Fan” - Take advantage of the latest Flash tools without leaving Fusion! Add custom Flash Photo Galleries and choose from a library of hundreds of decorative Flash elements.
- New features to increase Productivity - Preview and edit SiteStyles while you work. Apply CSS to your Fusion components and see your changes in Page View. Have Fusion generate W3C standards based HTML 4.01 code for your sites.
B. New features for V 11 ( see details HERE )
* fully Vista compatible
* Ajax UI Components
* Ajax Effects and Transitions
* Data-source XML Binding
* Data-bind to any object
* XHTML 1.0 Publishing
* Automatic Code Hinting
* Integrate custom scripts
* Image Gallery
* Google Site Traffic Tools
* Integrated Web Apps
Note that actually you can download the free Essential Version that offers many core features found in the latest Fusion 11. Note that this free version is also “up-to-XP only” and lighter than V 9 .
.
.
We must admit the list of features you do not get is more impressive than similar lists to any other older promotions we have found … BUT please note that this is not an abandoned version ! The latest update pack is from January 8, 2009.
And still ! … One may want to grabb this free promotion for these reasons:
- It has an unbelievable amount of features.
- Fusion 9 isn’t just a page builder – it’ll create and organise an entire website.
- You can start from either a blank page or one of the software’s many templates.
- You can drop new pages into your site’s structure and automatically build navigation buttons so your future visitors can find them.
- From visitor counters to e-commerce functionality, it has a range of tools that can be dropped straight into pages
- You can have as much or as little control over the design of your site as you want.
- Very easy to use, this WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) approach makes designing and building a website lots easier for the non-technically minded
Interesting for the beginners wanting to easily build a website in a few minutes , this promotion may have zero value for advanced computer / internet users ( and not only ) UNLESS they pay attention to the possibility to upgrade to the latest version with a 45 % discount . ( $ 109,95 instead of $ 199,95 )
Minimum requirements (PC): Windows 98SE/2000/XP, 660MHz Intel Pentium III processor/ or AMD equivalent, 250 MB of available hard disk space, 256 MB RAM–512 MB recommended if running multiple applications simultaneously, 32-bit ODBC drivers for external database connectivity, TCP/IP compliance for Internet connectivity, Internet connection/ 56k minimum, SVGA display capable of 1024 x 768/ 16-bit display/ 32-bit recommended, CD-ROM drive, mouse or compatible pointing device. Internet Explorer 6 or later. Macromedia Flash Player 7 or later for live rendering of Flash components. Verdana TrueType font (available with Internet Explorer 6)
How to grab this free promotion?
1. Go and register on this page. See the screenshots from below if you have troubles with the 7 steps.
https://shops.netobjects.com/cgi-bin/pages/pcadvisor
( copy and paste in your browser )
2. Check your email for the serial number.
.
.
3. Download the right installer ( 105 Mo ) from here ( very slow download )
http://www.computeractive.co.uk/netobjects9/
( copy and paste in your browser )
That’s it ! Run the installer and don’t forget to use your license serial to register. Note that it will install 201 Mo on your HD.
Very important ! Don’t forget to update the installed software from the Tools menu / Check for upgrades.
Like already said : 4 Free is not about grabbing software for free, no matter the quality. This is an older version of one of the best WYSIWYG design and publishing software and we’re glad it gives us the possibility to talk about various software domains.
We’re waiting for our readers feedback, like always. Of course there are alternatives, freewares or not. Let’s see what we can all learn regarding this subject.
We’ve had this older promotion on our list for more than 8 month and Alok also kindly notified us by email about it, a few weeks ago. Thank you Alok !
Enjoy everyone!

UPDATE - A Review from Franck ( Thank you ! )
Hi you all. I give netObject Fusion a deeper look (although quite quick I must admit).
I must tell you right now that the program is already uninstalled from my computer.1/ Guys from the editong company must be very good at marketing. NET(object), like in (DOT).NET ; and fusion like in adobe coldFusion !
Two major technologies for RIA (Rich internet application) development.
This piece of software has nothing to do with RIA though… just mere web development.
I guess this prestigious name “NetObject FUSION” gives a very positive name of the product. Even myself rushed to grab it.
I guess this name can lead to misunderstandings. I can see nowhere that this programs asks for a specif and proprietary server technology that would cost more than $1000 as gh stated above. Maybe I’m wrong but one eager to spend more than $1000 for his server OS license would never build ANY website using this app.2/ This app doesn’t target neither at professional nor at tech-savvy users. It’s by no means an HTML WYSIWYG editor.
Basically, this app belongs to the same category as WebEasy (avanquest) or WebSite X5 (Incomedia, previously on GOTD).
You can generate a full website without a single line of coding and no tech knowledge at all.
No HTML editing here. But indeed it’s a WYSIWYG website design tool.
If we’re OK about the definition and content of this software category, we can go on.3/ I don’t find the user interface well polished. Very often text leaks out of the boxes, which looks very amateurish.
A little bit annoying speaking about a $200 program.4/ Within its category, I’m incline to think it’s one of the best. One of the most expensive, but one of the best.
I once tried the other two I mentioned and, if I well remember, they offered less (much less) customization possibilities; templates were much more rigid.
This one offers advanced functionalities, such as a search engine, basic data binding, an online shop module…
I like the tree view that allows the user to arrange his site structure easily. I found this functionality very convenient. The navigation menu and the site map are then built according to this tree structure.5/ The program allows to see the generated HTML but doesn’t allow any edition of the generated part.
You can add elements, but cannot modify anything from what netObejct Fusion did by itself.
Compared to the competition in its category, if I’m not wrong it’s a big plus.6/ That said, I must be a little tech-savvier than many computer users, so it’s a big minus for me.
Not the biggest minus, though…7/ The generated HTML is awful. It uses the HTML 4.00 Transitional DTD which is not currently the most fashionable one.
Hum… 4.00? Actually that’s the first time I stumble upon a HTML 4.0 DTD. This version of HTML is outdated (1997 whereas HTML 4.01 is from 1999). Although there is no major differences between these two versions of HTML, as they are both quite old (v4.01 is currently the most recent), everyone who prefers HTML over XHTML uses v4.01.8/ Worse, it uses a table HTML element to draw the layout. Unacceptable. I know they improved W3C recommendation and CSS compliance with v10 and especially v11.
If one care about the quality of the HTML code, one shouldn’t use a version prior to 11 (note that I didn’t test and can’t guaranty the code is clean using v11).9/ As a matter of facts, Google says html code quality is an important factor for the google rank calculation. One can decide he doesn’t care, but the final result is far from being compliant with the current web standard. I mean: it doesn’t look what we got accustomed to.
Nor does the generated site width vary according to the screen resolution neither does it center in the browser.
So the site is width invariant and anchored to the left of the browser. It’s not beautiful and therefore the final result doesn’t look modern or up-to-date at all.
Maybe v11 corrects that (I SO hope…)
Or maybe my quick look around didn’t allow me to find out where this was to be configured.
Anyway this default configuration (if there is somewhere a way to actually configure that) is not judicious at all.10/ All that being said, I must say that if you doesn’t care of all that, this HF is still a bargain!
For professional reasons, I recently had to look for a website designer to hire. I was stunned by the prices (high) and the (low) quality of the work of the majority. I saw a website the customer paid 1600€ for which was not much better than what we can do with this HF. The layout was table-based, the guys used the aspx technology (which implies an expensive server) whereas HTML was mainly enough (except one or two pages with very basic php/mysql)
So… so here are my final words…If you just need a little basic website (which must mainly be an online shopfront) and if you don’t mind to put your shoulder to the wheel, netobject fusion shall definitely be useful and advantageous to you.
When I see what some give for 1600€, a 200$ seems really cheap!
Anyway, if you think this program could be of any good for you, I would advice you to consider the upgrade to the latest version. Before buying, try it… all I can say is that, with v9, the generated site look and feel was far from being attractive (not speaking about the html code quality). Given that one of the main purposes of your website is giving a good image of your company…

It’s a pity it’s not Vista/7 compatible but still I’m curious about other people feelings for this kind of software. I still like to design and build sites “by hand” (more or less)

Hey Seb!
It semms it’s working fine on W7 !!!
Acoording to Download.com, Netobjects Fusion Essentials works on Vista. I couldn’t find confirmation on Netobjects’ own site, so I’m going to try it.

Yup! It seems it’s compatible, in fact.
Another only up to XP product?
Guess I’ll sit and quietly wait for more up to date softwares.

Essentials installs and runs on VIsta Home Premium, SP1, running as administrator. During installation you must register, Serial number arrived immediately.
What does this version offer that Essentials doesn’t?

Hi!
Someone must have the time to compare them.
The installation is almost double for V 9, if I’m not wrong ( talking from memory )

Thanks for this HF 4 Free.

P.S. I’d like to find out how one can modify one’s profile, i.e. add picture under name as some have done with their response. I have looked all over the site and have not found the solution. If we all knew how this can be done, the “visual effects” would certainly enhance the response list. Just a thought…..

Hi stammer!

A quick feeling before trying this one. I grabbed my key because I want to try it quitly later.
I’m sur this one is good in its category, but I’m not sure I like THIS category. I have nothing against WYSIWYG nor against site generator software. But as I like doing things at hand (like Seb :)) I want those to have an HTML editor which doesn’t seem to be the case of this one if I trust what’s stated in its wikipedia article.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NetObjects_Fusion
With later versions, more and more so-called “insertion points” have been implemented where pieces of HTML can be inserted into the NOF-generated code (like between HEAD tags or inside BODY tags). Release 11 comes with HTML inspectors for every object on the page and with limited possiblities of editing code in the Code view. Code generated by NOF keeps excluded from editing in Code view.
So, HTML can be edited in specific parts of pages but not everywhere if this is correct. Sad.
Even sadder that :
Beginning with version 10, NetObjects Fusion improved compliance with modern web standards. NOF 10 (2006) came with full W3C and CSS 2.1 compliance and with a major overhaul of the user interface. However, CSS could be applied to text formatting only and page design stayed table-based. Release 11 (2008) offers CSS-positioned layout and publishing with XHTML 1.0 compliance.
At least until V11 that seems to be very bad HTML that is generated. A very BAD point to me. But I don’t want to be too peremptory before I take the time to try by myself.
So I’ll surely have more to say a little later.
An isolated island? how lucky !!!

Hey guys, I hope you are enjoying your vacation. I just got back from one myself. At least you have some kind of internet connection, I had nothing where I was. As to the software, it looks good but unfortunately I run vista. Also, check out this page for some good free wysiwyg editors.

So grabbed it, have to try it later.

Hi Mayur!
This is great software, but be aware of the real costs. To run web apps created with this tool, you will need a netobjects fusion server software. which is VERY expensive ($1000+). Very few hosting companies offer accounts with this server software.
2 points
Hi!
Are you sure about that ?
But you can create a website ( no special web apps ) .
Keep us informed please!
Regards!
Unfortunately I use Vista, so this program is not for me, besides I don’t much need it at the moment.
Spending your summer vocation on an isolated island don’t complain on slow internet connection but beware of wild island animals instead (j/k)!

Hi Dave !
While I had discovered this promotion a few weeks back, have not downloaded this still since I am using a different software for the purpose. And now Microsoft Office Sharepoint Designer 2007 is also free which I think has all features needed for website design (Fusion 9 may have better templates)
Registered 12 hours ago and still got no mail, although the site said that i will receive mail in some seconds. Is the promotion limited to some countries?

Based on Franck’s comments about the added possibilities for HTML editing offered by Version 11, I decided that I’d try to compare the features available in this version with those offered in the Essentials version. Unfortunately, I can’t find anything. If you, or anyone reading this, knows where I could find out something, I’d appreciate it if “you” would share. The following address links to a site where a user has just recently given a very enthusiastic review of the Essentials version of this product: http://blog.dariusspiteri.com/2009/04/13/netobjects-fusion-essential/. I appreciate being alerted to this offer as well as the Essentials product.

Hi!
That enthusiastic blog post cannot be qualified as a review.
Nothing wrong with it , just that real tech reviews are what we’re all interested.

Hi!
If download speed is slow, You can use download managers like Free Download Manager - http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/ or Orbit - http://www.orbitdownloader.com/. I use FDM and my download speed was 140 KB/s. For FDM just check in Options, Settings under Network that the Maximum number of connections is set to 10 or more.

Hunt4Gold found the promo page now offer a v10 license and captcha found the link to the proper installer…
So… maybe this v10 is a little better than v9 (according to your statement above, there is a better usage of CSS in this v10… better usage than in V9 isn’t difficult though…)
