Since our article was a fast one, we’re happy to highlight the generous comments from Mike Trudeau, Mayur, Mei, Hazy and Franck. This is how the community works !
… The article suffering of a obvious lack of details , becomes a very detailed one ! Please read those great details at the bottom of the article. Thank you friends !
( Hmmm! … We have promised to not interfere in the Special Highlighted Comments Section and we do keep our promise. It was naturally the summer vacation not “encouraging” our first 10 invited friends to take care of that aspect. But it is very important for the community ( members of the community - and not only the original Team, who does it anyway through the points system - pointing out the comments they have liked ). We’ll soon invite a few more old and real friends to join “the extended 4 Free Team”, in order to make it work like it should. It brings nothing to the team, but it should encourage the good/useful tech feedbacks.
In fact … Maybe our next important announcement will automatically solve this issue, anyway )

Hi friends !
We’re sure many of you have seen this promotion on August 18 on Gizmo’sTechSupportAlert.com , or on many other sites, afterwards.
Today is the last day for this giveaway so we just want to be sure that all 4Freers are aware about this possibility to grab another qualitative shareware for free.
Many 4freers told us about this promotion from the very first day. Our friend Kartheek D. N. is the last one who did it, and we have decided it doesn’t hurt to make sure all our friends are aware about it.

Mike Trudeau:
I grabbed this a few days ago and have been surprised at how useful it has been for me.
Now I know exactly which device(s) I’m swapping in and out, and don’t have to rely on XP’s generic “Mass Storage Device Drive “x” messages any more.
The ability to mount these devices as virtual folders is also a nice little extra that makes moving info to and from them a snap.mayur
Just from the promo(last week) i came to know about this peace of software. USB problems are always there for me, right from the day i started using USB sticks. So i straight away gave
a try to this one and i am really impressed !!pros
1)First of all, it finds which program is holding your device and gives the option to shutdown it(which windows fails to stop). This is best part of this software.
2)You can remove separate memory cards.
3)If you are using more than one USB, you can easily identify which drive-letter is assigned to which USB stick. You can even rename the device, so that you can easily identify it.
4)It hides drive-letters of card readers that are not in use.
5)Return device back is another great option - you can bring back
a disabled USB back to action without reinserting it.
6)Command line and keyboard shortcuts for safe removal are also there.Cons - so far really i didn’t find any; even the GUI is good and easy to use.
According to me its a must have!! So waiting for what, go and get it before the promo ends today and make use of it !!

Before this is over, I wish to make it clear that this is not Gizmo’s promo.
Let’s give due credit to the developer : http://safelyremove.com/
It’s not the first time the generous guy has given away free licenses of his award-winning project, each of which I have, as a matter of fact, availed of through Crystal Rich’s direct email notifications.
Hazy
Have been a beta tester of this for some time and have several licences, this is indespensible for me as i rarely have less than 4 usb items plugged in at the same time, usually at lot more, it sure beats the insipid version that M$ supplies.
They also produce a freeware called Lock Hunter to help unlock processes stopping deletion of files. They have a active forum as well and the guys are very helpful.Franck
I saw this promo at Raymond’s freebies, then as a post on his blog. Seeing that Raymond himself was quite fond of the program (the “best”) I grabbed it.
Actually it was just to see and test something new. Indeed I never used the awful windows embedded safe removal tool.
Maybe many computer users don’t know that a usb stick can be set up as not needing safe removal.
In “my computer” right click on the drive, then choose properties.
Choose the “hardware” tab (”matériel” in French)
In the list that appears select your usb stick then click the properties” button.
Now go to the “strategies” tab (”stratégies” in French) and select “optimize for fast removal”.
From then on, you should no longer need to safe remove this device. You can check safe removal is no longer required using USBDView from nirsoft.
(here)That said, being offered a full license of usb safe remove I decided to give it a try.
I found the GUI nice, the shortcut feature is really convenient (it’s really easy to safe remove a usb device). You can set a general shortcut, and you can also set shortcuts to safe remove some specific usb devices… Nice.
The restore feature is sometimes convenient, and the ability to mount an usb device as a ntfs folder can turn out to be really powerful and useful. So I changed the setting for my very own usb stick which I use everyday. I set it up to “optimize for performance” (safe removal required).
With Usb Safe Remove, it’s really easy and quick to remove it the proper way. As for the performance, I allow some more days to tell if it’s really better when “optimized for performance” than when “optimized for fast removal”.Usb Safe Remove has quite a huge footprint in the system memory though. Currently it’s more than 25000 Kb in my system!
If Usb Safe Remove allows me to “optimize for performance” with no hassle, I guess it’s worth that footprint.
If the writing/reading performances are not higher, I’m not sure one can find a better solution than “optimize for fast removal” : no memory footprint, nothing to click (not even a shortcut), no need to restore a “removed” device (as it remains available as long it is plugged…That said:
1/ Even when “optimized for fast removal” Usb Safe Remove can prevent catastrophies ; imagine you are editing a word document that is stored on the usb device ; as the device can be unplugged without safe removal procedure, you just unplugged it, and lose your hard work ; usb safe remove would have warned you that the document was still opened and that unplugging the device may cause data loss ;
2/ Just to be as complete as I can : usb safe remove is still installed on my system, and, overall, I think I’ll keep it ; I tipped at least two persons of my entourage about this promo… So, I think I’m quite convinced by this piece of software!

Missed it. I guess yesterday was the last day. I was out of town. Sigh. Well, I missed that one but I’ve still gotten many great software programs thru this site.
What are you talking about ?
Please see the screenshot I have added to the article after reading your comment.
You still have + 14 hrs!
Good luck!

I grab 2 licenses ( PC+laptop)….easy download and install…..the license coming in 1-2 minutes.
Nice program, good features ( run a program after plugging or stopping a device ….. good features for card readers ) .
Much practical than the usual way to disconnect a device .
Thanks !

Bonjour !
J’ai réussi a avoir une licence, ainsi qu’un ami, le logiciel est aussi en partie en français, tout n’est pas traduit. Il fonctionne parfaitement sous vista. Merci !

Hello!
I managed to get a license, and a friend, the software is also part French, not everything is translated. It works perfectly under vista. Thank you!

Why ? ( not trusting the company )
Any special reasons ?

Hi Mei!
We have never said it was Gizmo’s promotion.( just said where we have seen it published for the first time )
Everybody can clearly see that this a giveaway from the developer - Crystal Rich.LTD
Thanks for making it clear.

I’ve taken this as a recommendation from the team and I’ve grabed it.
I’m very impressed!
Thnx Kartheek D. and the team and everybody else concerned!

Looking at the comments at 4 Free, I’ll download it too.
I am generally a bit skeptical about downloading system utilities except when they are from famous companies.
Thanks 4 Free, other people in the community, and of course the developer!

I was lucky to grab it in the last two mins of the giveaway!

Our 10 team-mates, from the extended Team, must be sleeping if they don’t highlight interesting comments like this one ( and many others )
Our next announcement will solve this problem, I’m sure.

Wanted to extend a warm thanks for this one. I got this a while ago and realized I never said thanks.
This program is really useful for someone like me who has a ton of different portables and externals.
Thanks a lot for this awesome find.

Hi!
… or on 4 Free !
Hi folks,
I grabbed this the other day whilst on hols and haven’t got around to using it yet, but can’t wait to try it….thanks for the tip.
Question…..does it do any harm just pulling a stick out of the slot without safely removing it ??
Thanks again

Hi CZ!
The first answer that come to my mind is : in some cases you can lose data or damage it.
