I downloaded this a couple of weeks ago.
If I’m not mistaken I got the instructions from Seb or Francks page.
It downloaded fine and it was the Platinum Edition 5.1.1. I have used it twice and it works great.

I ripped 2 DVDs into the mpeg2 format so I could work on them in another program.
It took about the same time frame as the movie. If the movie was 1 and a half hours it took about that long to rip it.
I really couldn’t tell you much more. I just set it to the format I needed, left it while it was ripping, and when I pulled the file into my other program it worked great.
I had tested some others before I found this one for free, and there was one or two that ripped in a lot less time,however the end results were no better than WinX.

I have used a older version of this program and if I recall the ‘ripped’ file was around 1.5 to 2 GB in size (I choose to do it in AVI no compression)I then used a freeware program called Handbrake(handbrake.fr) that encoded the file into Xvid (AVI) and it also allows to you to set a size that you want the final movie to be, so I have taken a 2 GB file and turned it into a 702 MB file! The whole process took around 30-45 mins on my quad core AMD w/4GB’s RAM, and the end product was just as good quality wise as the DVD it’s self!
P.S. I have been sharing these freebies on XXXX, and there has been allot of people saying what a great site this is!

I think this was on giveawayoftheday awhile ago and I did not like it then. The quality of the output was not that good. There are so many other DVD backup programs out there like DVD Shrink, DVD Fab and if you need to convert any file to any file there is Format Factory. I use all of those all the time. You can get them all at XXXXX

To rip my dvd’s I first use dvdfab (free version from: http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm ). Dvdfab (free edition) copies the dvd to the hard disk and removes some of protections. When dvdfab has finished I use dvdshrink to shrink my dvd in size by removing unneeded languages and subtitles and sometimes (not always) compressing the rest. (Altough the latest version of dvdshrink is from 2004 and it isn’t supported anymore by the developer, I still like it at lot. It’s easy to use and still does it’s job. What more could I want?)
And on the other hand I sometimes use ‘formatfactory’ to convert a dvd to an mpeg file (you also convert to mp4/avi/wmv/3gp/vob/flv, by default mpeg seems return the best result for formatfactory)
