Google Wave - Test the future ! ( only 100 K invites ) :-(

We’re mad on our friends ! … The generous ones usually posting in the Latest Important News series ! :-)

.

How does it come that nobody has toldus about this highly important news ! :-( Google Wave is making a step further !

We’re joking, of course. We’ve had very busy days, lately, and we have kind of neglected our “daily web itinerary”. ( for example the news was published on GHacks.com on September 30 ! )

We remember Seb has told us about it some 6 month ago about this awesome concept. Maybe the most impressive one at the moment !

Google Wave is an online tool for real-time communication and collaboration. A wave can be both a conversation and a document where people can discuss and work together using richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.

.

.

What is a wave?

A wave is equal parts conversation and document. People can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.

A wave is shared. Any participant can reply anywhere in the message, edit the content and add participants at any point in the process. Then playback lets anyone rewind the wave to see who said what and when.

A wave is live. With live transmission as you type, participants on a wave can have faster conversations, see edits and interact with extensions in real-time.

We’re afraid it’s a little bit too late for getting invites from the official page ( check nevertheless if one of your friends is the happy owner of a Google Wave account … Because he has the right of inviting five other friends ! )

We’re eagerly waiting for feedbacks about this revolutionary concept.

Untill we’re all be able to use Google Wave please enjoy these awesome demonstration :

Now it’s quite difficult to get invitation for Google Wave unless one wants to buy it on ebay site ($80). You can also try your luck here, but surely it will take some time.

Google wave somehow reminds of opera unite. (I didn’t try Google wave yet, as I’m not yet invited), but I heard a few things about it. Opera unite will be in the upcoming “opera 10.10″. And one of the differences is that with Google wave everything will be on some server far away, while with opera unite everything will stay on the computer of the user itself.
(So if a user shares a pictures with some friends, the picture will not be uploaded to a server, but stay on the computer of the user). Unite also has the option to use ‘UPnP’ (”UPnP” means Universal Plug and Play, which allows you to share your data using direct connections to your computer, if available). Meaning you can chat, share pictures/foders/documents/etc…, Media Player. And (ofcourse) everyone can write their own applications that can run under unite. Someone has already made an torrent tracker (see: http://code.google.com/p/unite-tracker/ )
If you want to try unite you need a free my.opera.com account. (That’s needed so people can access you’re unite ‘applications’). More info about unite on: http://unite.opera.com/
(Those who want to try unite can download the latest snapshot of the opera browser on http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/. Warning: a snapshot is more stable than alpha version, but NOT as stable as a beta. So most users will want to wait for either a beta or a final release…)

I value my privacy so this or FB is not an option. I tend to carefully choose the places I allow others to communicate with me not that I’m paranoid but big brother in the USA is way out of hand. So thank you for the news anyway. You can never be to careful on the internet thats why I appreciate your previewing all comments before posting.

As of privacy, I praise Opera Unite over this. I have tried Opera Unite with some friends, and it was fantastic.
It’s filled with feature, just like Opera itself, and Unite will definitely get tons of additional “applications” that works for other purposes.
But Unite’s strength is also its critical weakness, it allows user generated “application”, which means to me foul “application”.
I hope that there would be a verification system to prevent this :(.
