RadControls for WinForms Q3 2009 ( worth $799 ) - 4 Free

Update : 87 comments awaiting moderation on 4Free BestS surveys . Thank you ! … and please be patient and continue to participate . ( This week we’ll launch another 4Free community “working tool”, and this is taking all our free time )

.

Hi friends!

This promotion is not a “first-revealed” one. Maybe you have already seen it on different sites …  And have not paid attention.

We’ve had before an older version of this promotion ( from the same Alok if we’re not wrong )  - expiring on Oct 31st, 2009 … But we  have seen it published on Raymond’s forum and we’ve said : “Ok! There’s no need to talk about it anymore.”

To our big surprise the tip was extremely underrated on Raymond’s Forum , just some 272 viewers ( see screenshot. Greetings “ha14” ! )… And as we have noticed ( Thank You Alok ! ) the software developer has extended the promotion untill January 31st, 2010 … AND we can download the brand new version Q3 …

.

.

… We have decided to put it on the front page of 4Free where it can be read by some few dozens of thousands readers ( not in one day, of course ) …  And you can add the usual 4 Free buzz.

This is not the kind of popular software - the system utilities tools “so dear” to Franck&co :) - but a very specialized set of tools we’re sure we’ll rarely have the occasion to find in free promotions. So it doesn’t hurt at all to talk about different softwares like the today’s subject ( and like the yesterday’s Site Content Analyzer (GOTD) reviewed by Franck ).

RadControls for WinForms ( from Telerik- Bulgaria ) includes over 50 UI controls that you can use to easily build unique and visually stunning Line of Business applications.

Great find, even if I can’t use it! Kudos! Also, 4Free Team, thanks for the heads up about the unnameable site. I wasn’t aware.

    Hi !
It’s on you and you only to appreciate the quality of a site you read.
We’re just wondering why on earth anybody would ever need “guru’s reviews” … Especially when the guru is a fake ( and teenager ) one.
Just use google for the software you need and you’ll find REAL reviews, from experienced professionals who are not just traffic-hunters.
At least this is what we do.
    Best regards !

    Hi!
I can fully understand the “wish I needed it” part.
As for “how to use it” it has very clear and comprehensive tutorials.
… For those who will ever need it .:)

I think you missed out important information:
    “Supported Development Tools:
    Microsoft Visual Studio 2005
    Microsoft Visual Studio 2008″

    Not a spam, I swear!

It turns out that “big boys” - like you - manage to read all the infos they need … Especially in this case - a complex software, not for everyone.

As an “advanced computer user,” I was curious about what this program could do for me, and/or what I could do with it. A look through the online help manual (link provided above) indicated that it is intended for a subset of “advanced users:” developers and programmers. Although you can indeed install it on machines meeting the specifications shown above, it is useless unless you are creating an application using either of two IDEs (Integrated Development Environments). The next lines on the page which shows the installment requirements notes identifies the only “Supported Development Tools:
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005; Microsoft Visual Studio 2008.” Free, “Express” versions of these IDE’s can be downloaded direct from Microsoft. Anyone wanting to use RadControls must first master the learning curve for those applications. Once that is done, the free materials available for learning how the use RadControls are available from http://www.telerik.com/products/winforms/resources.aspx. These resources include a 657-page PDF “for beginners” which is called a “Step By Step Learning Guide” (http://www.telerik.com/documents/Telerik_RadControls_for_Winforms_courseware.pdf). That’s a lot of steps. It’s great to see developers getting a chance at “goodies” which could really be useful to them, without the huge cost ususally associated with them.

    18 November, 2009

One further note. The full name of the product is “RadControls for WinForms.”
WinForms turns out to be a casual form of of the name Windows Forms.
In their article on Windows Forms, Wikipedia says that “Windows Forms is the name given to the graphical application programming interface (API) included as a part of Microsoft’s .NET Framework.”

This offer is too good to be true. Control suites like this are a developers delight, eg. DevExpress ( around $2000 ) ; but Telerik and Infragistics are gaining quick popularity and having a control suite free means much more for developers .
Thanks a lot for this , and hoping to see many more developer freebies in the futures.

    Thanks a lot again .

I am an .NET developer and I am drooling over this (sorry for the mess :p). I just wish this were the ASP.NET controls since I do more on the web development side.
But this is still VERY cool. Telerik is one of the big names, if not the biggest name, in UI controls for the .NET world.

    Hi!

  25. 18 November, 2009

It’s a tool for software developers and works with C#, VB, etc. It replaces the default (and kid of ugly) controls built inside Microsoft’s Visual Studio with nicer ones, adding new options as well. I’ve looked at the documentation a bit and the new controls are very easy to use. I’ll probably make use of these controls in the near future for one the applications I’m developing.
Thank you for a great tool 4Free!

Downloaded it twice with some kind of problem at the end. First by Firefox and second by Orbit. Although Orbit informed download was finished, it did not change the name of the downloaded file. Suffix remained .0B! or something like that. I just renamed it excluding this suffix and leaving the .exe suffix and it all worked fine. Installed without problems.

That’s exactly the kind of promotion I like. That’s true that I can’t understand how many video converters and system optimizing tools some people need… :) (but it’s nice everyone has his own taste, so…)
To speak the truth I have absolutely no use for this HF. I’m pretty sure it’s really top notch product for true. (I insist on purpose. We sometimes use “top notch” expression too easily… my 2 cents…)
I’m not a developer. But I can understand how this kind of tool can dramatically helps developers in their works.
I’m very glad this HF occured on 4 free. As a matter of fact, I didn’t see it at raymond’s freebies. I guess I saw Winform and knew I couldn’t use this one.
But I repeat: it’s one of the best promo published on 4 free. Exactly what I like : making me see things I wouldn’t have seen otherwise, and learning new things.
    Great !

    20 November, 2009

    Hi again,

Ok, I’ll admit that at first I had absolutely no idea what this program is about. And that alone confirmed my initial statement (in the according upcoming HF, which for some odd reason never saw the light of the day, never mind) that the price tag indicated that it wouldn’t be sth for the masses. So, I went over to their side and looked around, started going through the online Manual and the moment I was just getting an idea what this could be about, I noticed (just like pozmu) the defining requirement: “Supported Development Tools…”. So, I said “definitely not sth for me”.

But, I told a friend of mine about it (he’s in develpoment) and he got all excited and said he would use the opportunity to get this as it’s great, rich featured, one of the best of its kind and so on. So, I said “ok, at least I mad one person happy today”.

So, thanks 4Free Team for this one; diversity is what makes this world interesting and I wouldn’t have it any other way when it comes to this community.

Did you get a chance to see if this promotion could be used by non-MSDN subscribers as well? I had sent you a link for that a few days back.
No worries if you have not gotten a chance since the promotion is valid for some time still…

    Hi Alok!
If I’m not wrong that’s just the download page ( point 5 from our”How to grab RadControls for WinForms Q3 2009 4 Free ?”)
Anyway ! In our promotion description there is no sign of MSDN subscription. We have all seen any Telerik registered member can get the free software.
