We’re not into music production, but we have a lot of friends working in this field. They all say Cakewalk SFZ+ Professional is top-notch.

The name comes from the SFZ sound format.

If you want to make it work on a multicore machine, note that on forum.cakewalk.com somebody has put a download link to the multicore update ( check the bottom of the list ).

A few ideas have we read details about Cakewalk SFZ+ on professional forums here and there.

Here’s how sfz_buddy seems to work:
1) First, to get the Reverb and Chorus effects, make sure “effects” is turned “On” in sfz.
2) When soundfonts are loaded, all the effects and controls work as expected.
3) When sfz patches are loaded, the Modulation Wheel and envelope controls (whether via sfz_buddy, or from an external controller) do nothing, unless specifically programmed into the .sfz file.

… Or a nice complete solution from “DNA”

1. discoDSP Highlife is free sampler that can import SFZ files. It has filter, Amp Env, Mod Env and few builded effects. Looks like a solid (and pretty light, not overwhelming) tool for loading SFZ files. (as well as wav, mp3, akai)
2. sfZed - is free , easy to use: soundfont (SF2) into SFZ converter.
3. CakeWalk Sfz+ Pro (not Sfz Player) - free sampler that can import Soundfont (SF2) files. (if you’re getting out of memory error when importing SF2 files just change the “mode” into PR32 , whatever it is Wink
It has filter, amp / mod envelops, some effects (reverb, chorus etc.).

This three, free tools are pretty much everything you need to load SF2, SFZ files (and ocassionaly convert Soundfont into SFZ format if you need to) and set the envelopes, filter etc.

As you can see you can also download - from the same page : Cakewalk Square I, Cakewalk Audio FX 1, Cakewalk Audio FX 2 and Cakewalk Audio FX 3.

Unfortunately - when we have tried all promoted items - only Cakewalk SFZ+ Pro and Square I installed fine. All three Audio FX versions have asked for licenses.

Maybe we have missed something, so if you need these plugins, we encourage you to check them yourself, since the promotion says FREE!

Serial numbers / keys for FX 1+2+3 comes with the file in a zip container
Each zip file has a README file that contains a valid serial number
